I 40 is the winter road of the USA. Take that by default ALWAYS.

You do not penetrate into I-70 Colorado between Denver and Grand Junction during chain season. (Winter)

What storms you do see here on I-40 as ongoing right now between Tucumari and Armarillo-OKC etc is relatively minor compared to the raging hell int he mountains of Colorado.

The two locations you MUST sit up and make ready for battle will be Winslow AZ and Flagstaff AZ. if there is a storm present. To your benefit, DOT from AZ is very powerful online in storm road status etc.

The only trouble I had on that 40 was a loss of 24 hours waiting on a railroad derailment with hazmat past Flagstaff. So we sit and wait that out. The alternative routes through Sedona etc is just too much for what I had been doing that day up to that point. But a new appt time took care of that problem.

So. I-40 = winter road take it always.
