i really hate to see any accident--let alone one where there are injuries or fatalities
but, seems everybody is pretty quick to jump on the crst team--yes there is a minimun speed on the interstate--and obviously he wasnt exoirienced enough to be driving on his own--and if that is the case the trainer shouldnt have been sleeping in the bunk
but for the other truck to rear end him like that--he as well is at fault for not paying attention--supose it had been a previous accident or a broke down truck---either way he still would have hit it
i really hate all the blame laying and the get the rope out on the tree stuff--it was an accident--one that didnt have to happen and now there is a grieving family--that is enough for me to consider, with out worrying about who was at faultOnyx New York, NWMAXI, Everett and 8 others Thank this. -
And the CRST truck was in the "driver" lane (left) lane correct??-at 5mph?? I admit,I too have come up fast on trucks who were going SLOW in the left lane, (WHY),but 5mph..? If they would have been going THAT slow, well,I doubt I would be here now..

the driving lane is the Right lane, the left lane is the passing lane...
American Truckerotherhalftw and Onyx New York Thank this. -
Was the Happy Jack Pass (8600 ft) involved as a reason for the slow speed?

No. It happened a good 10 miles east of there. -
oh man thats terrible...i had a narrow escape like that myself i was coming south on 15 from Ogden Ut and on the right lane doing 65 with 46000 ibs in the box i saw a truck in front of me but i realized it was doing 5 to 10 mph no flashers i came up quicker than diarrea on its back my first reaction was to start braking and change lanes but in a split second i glanced at my rearwiew and there was 2 cars on my left i braked as hard as i could just bracing the wheel when i saw those cars go by i changed lanes and barely missed this stupid ####### driving a England truck i honked my air horn and he gives me the bird could u believe that...my blood pressure was running high after that all day.
Onyx New York Thanks this. -
if he was only 10 mph slower--then he would still be doing the speed limit as well
cant remember where i was,but it was down soth someplace and i was crawling a hill--maxed out with paper and thru the hazards on--then proceeded to get cussed out by some old guys--calling me an" fing #### yankee---ya dont do that here unless you are broke down--ya can do that up north but dont do it here"
so its really a no win situation--just got to keep them eyes peeled especially in the low light / bad visibility timesotherhalftw and Onyx New York Thank this. -
I don't care where I am in the country. If my truck isn't able to do the minimum speed limit posted, I put my 4-ways on. I learned that from my dad, a 40+ year veteran, long before I ever drove a truck. It just makes sense. The human eye is naturally attracted to light. At least the trainee was smart enough to put his 4-ways on.
As to the accident, it's incredibly sad. There's multiple parties at fault here, and I'm sure the courts will figure that all out. CRST is not only a training company, but also a team company. I highly doubt they change their load schedules to adjust for trainees. That would be left to the lead driver of the truck (aka the "trainer") who isn't likely to cost him or herself lose out on miles. It's a vicious cycle that shouldn't exist because at the end of the day, the only ones affected by all this is the drivers. The big wigs at the companies have armies of attorneys to protect their interests.Everett, Injun, simplyred1962 and 3 others Thank this.
