I live about 10-15 minutes from the I-35 pile up. I opted to not run during this time frame for a couple reasons. 1) Taking my wife to a VA appointment as she has been sick and 2) Has to do with at what cost or is it worth it to run in some of the iced up roads.
Snow I don't mind, cold, bring it on. But checking the weather and just getting the feeling it was going to be bad I opted out.
Ice = No Bueno for me. Years ago (late 90s) when I lived in Wichita, KS we had one of those bad ice storms that freezes your doors shut and coats every thing with thick ice. I had never driven on that type of ice so I woke up and got dressed to get to work. Hopped in my little ford ranger after prying the door open and thawing the windshield and proceeded to put er reverse and slid down the driveway into the street and slid another 40-50 down the road backwards until I came to rest against curb. Hopped out. Went inside and didn't go back out for 2 days. Lol.
No broker is going to pay my insurance bill increase if I pile-up for the next so many years to run on ice.
Be safe out there yall. I know some are out and have to run in it.
On another note, this Prime Driver did a great securment job it looks like. Even though it is a step and some folks would not have put forward movement straps on it looks like he did. His load stayed put in the melee. I heard he had posted he was okay. Freeway still shut down. Roads are clear today of ice.

Yes lots of driving schools yet how many actually teach truck drivers how to drive defensively? Specially in dangerous conditions yes for sure if visibility is bad best option is to get off as soon as possible, second option is drive to the conditions the posted speeds are for ideal conditions a snow storm, icey roads etc, etc are not ideal conditions and one should slow down and drive accordingly unfortunately some motorists ignore these basic safety precautions and the above situations occur.tscottme, FerrissWheel and DoubleO7 Thank this.

Your life is not worth someone's freight. Get off the road let it warm up and /or allow the road crews do their magic. If your dispatcher is pushing for ontime delivery, invite them to come and drive the truck.

Why I wont haul into US,,majority of steering wheel holders only look 10’ down the road. These pile ups are constant!
tscottme and FerrissWheel Thank this.
