Cars got 1 12v battery. Need 24v to crank a semi. It's worth spending $300-400 on a 24 volt jump starter. Sure you can say not my truck make them pay for road calls but then you're wasting your own time. People buy $800 GPS units they don't need anyways might as well buy something that'll save you time and make you money. Especially up there in the badlands during winter time.

But for $300-$400 I could buy a whole box of ammo or ½ a gallon of gas right now.
I've actually looked into jump starters. I just don't have the money right now. -
Which North American trucks use 24 volts? Issue with booting from a car is mostly getting enough cranking amps into batteries quickly.
-
I don't recommend jumping 24v to 12v. Trucks are 12 unless you are in Europe or some place. Batteries hooked parallel are still 12. Hooked in series like heavy equipment you get 24.InTooDeep, Aamcotrans, chalplec and 1 other person Thank this.

I'm sorry didn't mean to tell wrong information. I just know from my experience a 12v jump starter wouldn't jump my ProStar I drove. I didn't know they made 12v jump starters with enough peak amps to start a semi so I bought a 24v one off Amazon and has worked. It's 3,000 peak amps the 12v I got at home for the car was only 1,000.

Don't mind me I'm just dumb and spent that much money. You can get regular 12v starters on Amazon with 2,000 peak amps on Amazon for around $100.scott180 Thanks this.

A bunch of us should remember the days of series/parallel switches in trucks. everything ran off 12 volts except the starter complicated systems. I think they quit using it in the early 60s.

$400 will buy a set of new batteries, which will last for couple of years)
Oxbow Thanks this. -
Might have been a bit later than that. They had the cap you could remove and push the plunger by hand to start them if I remember correctly.mtoo Thanks this.
