    It looked like he dozed off and drifted onto the shoulder and jerked the wheel at the same times his rear wheel dropped off the pavement onto the steep and soft soil. Smartphone victim or sleepy.

    That woud be my guess, except I'm pretty sure there are rumble strips there. Hard to sleep through them.

    Was a hell of a mess well into the night. Had traffic backed off for several miles.

    Not a quarter mile from the rest area exit, so it doesn’t make sense he just pullled over for a stop.
