The EPA brought out their half baked science.
The scare mongers embelished the half baked science.
Idiots in legislations picked up & ran with the half baked science because the scare mongers made it noticeable to the public such that the legislators had to show some kind of effort, right or wrong, in justifying their meaningless existences.
You see, Senators & Congresspeople are each handed a brand new sabre as they enter office.
Their only need tp remain in office is to have something to rattle that sabre against.
The shinier the sabre & the louder it rattles, the easier it is to get re-elected.
Anything, right or wrong, bassackwards or not, is sufficient to rattle that sabre against.
No one said the sabre had to be sharp.
It's never going to cut the mustard.
Here we are.

Not a single one of the things you posted will do much good.
OOIDA has proven to not be much help most of the time.
So have the senators. -
Here's the answer you've all been looking for;
Just stop..That's all there is to it.
Everyone plan their vacations for the same week.
If ya can't get a vacation during that week, get a virus.
Take a few personal days.
Go on a drunk.
The truck is broken & no parts readily available.
Don't even have to call it a strike this way.
Whatever it takes to get that week off. -
Unfortunately, even if a trucker were to die due to these laws, there would not be a successful lawsuit against the state or the company.
The reason that would most likely be presented, is the trucker was responsible enough to take care of himself. The company would say, why didn't he go to a motel? The state would claim the same. The court would take the same stand.
I know this is going to cause arguements, but let's use common sense. Nowhere does it say they provide comfortable living arrangements.
I have tried to write this twice. I am on the side of truckers. I just happen to understand the business standpoint that could be presented.
The down side, is where are the motels when you would need them?
Next to shipper/receiver? Not hardly.
Next to truck stop? Rarely.
Middle of I-80 in nowhere? Not a chance. -
How screwed up is it that it is ok to idle for the health and welfare of an animal but not for a human?
-
There are no exceptions for animals. There have been several past threads on this. These states will prosecute you for animal neglect, but there are no exceptions.
-
this is baffling
there is no recourse?
vacation? you cant get two drivers to agree on anything, you think a major part of the industry is going to do anything in unison?
so united we stand, but divided, we cant get up -
You're right in that ther company is under no legal obligation to give you a "comfortable" place to sleep while on the road.
It just has to provide you with the tools to safely perform your job.
I would consider a place to rest comfortably as a required safety tool.
The anti-idling laws are so ridiculous.
Ok, you get to start & idle your truck for five mins out of x number of mins per hour.
So, every hour you should be sleeping is broken up by having to start the truck & shut it down?
I don't think so.
Automatic start & stop?
I don't think so.
That alone would wake me every time it started.
Not to mention, I'd always feel like someone was jumping up on the truck or worse, taking my nose off.
Do I just get used to that & let it go?
I don't think so.
How do you explain to your boss that, yes, I was in the truck.
No, I didn't feel the nose being ripped off because it was just like the motor starting every hour & I was told to ignore that feeling.
I'm sure a good attorney could make a case.
Someone just has to be hurt by this & there will be a court case. -
Well guys and gals whatever is out there the "no idle law" is probably here to stay in the US. Like your "oppos" in the Euro Zone, the no idle law is there to stay. For years there has been no more than 75 Db noise levels in urban areas at night AND no operation after 12.00 noon on Saturdays until 6.00 am on Mondays means truckers have definate rest times mandated by law. The exception is special cargo and livestock transportation/perishable foods etc.
So from Europe come the Webasto solution; it's futuristic needs no engine operation for A/C and ####s a middle finger at CARB.
We will have it shortly in stock
Keep on trucking

Comfort and safety aside, I've got a cigarette ligher cooler to keep my food, and I'll be ###### if the government tells me I'll have to let my food spoil or the cooler to drain my batteries.
