I don't know what to do. I got my CDLon 1-14-12 with all the endorsements haz-mat, doubles/triples, tanker, and TWIC card. I have been applying to mostly local companies. I'd like to stay local if possible. They all tell me the same thing, I would hire you but we need someone with experience. Go OTR
for a year and come back. I applied to TMC, Werner etc. Got a call from TMC, recuiter said they would try to get me approved. Same with Werner. Great got approved by both.
Went on this site and read stories about TMC sending people home because they didn't lift the tarp properly or because they couldn't shift a 13 spd trans properly.
Read stories about rookies going to Werner, making it through orentation and the 6 or so weeks with the trainer only to be told Werner doesn't have anything for them and they sit for a few weeks without any work. I also read all the stories about how Werner is a horrible co to drive for, the big blue screw etc.
i have a a family and a job so I don't want to make a bad decision and take a job with a company only to not have a job after the orentation or OTR training.
Does anyone have any advise for new/wanna be drivers as to a company who isn't going to screw you in the end ?

Don't let the TMC stories you've heard color your decision. They are a great company, and most of what you've probably read here and there is crap. And if you're approved there you should jump on the opportunity. (if flatbedding is truly what you want to do)

Thankyou to all who replied.
Anymore advice from experienced drivers would be appreciated. I need all the info/help I can get.
I think the CDL schools feed you a line of bull. -

TMC is one of the few companies where the good stories from the drivers far outweigh the bad. The equipment is sure top notch.

You NEED to put aside all the rhetoric and get a job. The LONGER you stay away from trucking, the MORE LIKELY YOU WILL BE TOLD, to go back to school. You wanna continually go back to school, all because of some crap you hear?
Just get it done.
