I've been written up for idle time, but I haven't heard anything in quite a while.
Maybe they gave up on trying to get me not to idle.

I don't just let the truck run 24 hours a day, but I do idle as I need to.
I live in this truck, and I'll be comfortable while I'm in it. And they have a lot more to lose than a few gallons of fuel if I get in a crash because I didn't sleep well the night before.

Thats what I am saying right there....

I mean I don't just let it chug fuel away all day long , but if I am hot or cold it runs ..

Does the idle percentage reset each new load you get assigned? Or is it a per month average? I noticed my On Board Babysitter resets in the performance monitoring each time I'm assigned a new load. I'm getting a little shweaty out here and would like to use some air conditioning, but running all night for 6-8 hours seems a bit much. Is that what you guys do? What would that put your percentage at you think?

I idle when I need to - period.

I've had idle times as high as ~80%.
Summer time down south... winter time when my bunk heater was not working...

There are more important things than idle time.
Like being on-time, running good miles, getting decent fuel mileage, a good safety rating...
It also helps to have a good relationship with your DM.

I think I've actually been face to face with my current DM only 3 times in the past 2.5 years. But that little bit of contact, as well as how I conduct myself while OTR, seems to be enough to form a mutual respect and friendship. And that goes a long way when I need him to stick up for me.
There is a reason that I still have a DM in southern CA, while my residence is in MN.

The idle percentage resets with each new load - on the QC.
But your actual reported percentage is a running calculation for the past 3-4 weeks.

So, what's the deal with a baby Jesus?
He didn't do anything as a baby. It was only when He got older that mattered.

Here's something you may not realize.

You can decrease your over-idle percentage by idling the truck.

    Yes.
As long as you don't let the auto-shutdown shut off the engine, idling for less than 5 minutes will decrease the percentage.

Rather hard on the engine to turn it on and shut it off every 4.5 minutes, not to mention the personal time involved.
But if you REALLY want to get the idle time down, it can be done - with a lot of patience, of course.
