I agree. I never used their parking services, but I did use their wi-fi all the time. Most of the time it was pretty fast, and they didn't have data limits like flying J's does. TA's service is slow, and don't get me started with Pilot's wi-fi, which all I will say it's been a wasted $4 every time I've ever used it. I'm going to miss the wi-fi.
As for their parking spots, I parked nose in if I couldn't find a parking spot anywhere else. I've never been hassled or asked to pay when I did. Backing out was a pain. All in all, I pretty much knew all that equipment they put up was going to end up laying in the back of the parking lot with weeds growing up over it sooner or later. No one was using the things. You could walk through there on any given night, at any truck stop that had them, there were never more than a half a dozen trucks with that big hose strapped to their windows. It was a loser from the get-go. Didn't it take tax payer money to get them going in the first place?

Park n view was a disaster. I remember having to move the truck 5-6 times before I found one of those stupid yellow things that actually worked. One good flood killed them all in the whole truck stop. People would run over them. There was no way the company that owned them could keep up with the maintenance on those stupid things. -

the thing that really irked me about idleaire was during hurricane ike. like many, i was parked at the t/a in san antonio for a few days while ike ripped up the houston and galveston areas. before it hit, the price to use the units was its regularly expensive price. once ike made landfall, i noticed that the prices of the units skyrocketed tremendously. i had put in about $200.00 into the thing pre-ike. the time was up within 8hrs, and the price was almost 3 times more expensive.
at any rate, good riddance to that service. now the truck stops can have their regular parking back once again. -
Glad to see them go.
The problem is I believe the trkstps. will be the ones to tear them down.
Some body may have posted this comment before. I do not know as I did not read all the posts.

The solution to Idleaire???
CABAIRE!!!!! -
Smelly Guy,
Cool name, and Welcome Aboard !!!!!
Stick around, tell us more about cabaire !!!!!!! -
Thank you for the welcome! Cabaire was Idleaires competition among electrified parking solutions. They are in the far north east part of the country. They have a website- just google "cabaire" (I would link it, but can't post links yet as I am new here).
I am kind of bummed that Idleaire had to shut down. I am close to friends and family that are OTR and for the most part enjoyed the service. I am hoping to see more services for hard working professional drivers in the future, that make life more easy and relaxing on the road.jtrnr1951 Thanks this. -
I was an employee at the Elkton, MD site for almost 3 years. I actually opened that site in Dec. 2006. Many of you may know me. I may know you! I want to make it known that IdleAire, had they listened to the suggestions of their employees, could have saved themselves from their own self destruction. We, the shift managers and site reps, were the ones on the frontline, so to speak, We were the ones who had the pleasure of interacting with the lifeblood of the company - you, the driver. Many a time we took your suggestions and comments to our site managers, asking them to pass them on -to better the members' experiences with IdleAire. We were never taken seriously, and I can tell you now that none of your thoughts, ideas, or suggestions ever made it through the proper channels. The upper management that were running operations - from the site managers to the distrist managers, and on up - were never held accountable for their actions, nor their inability to act. I watched 3 managers come and go during my time with Idleaire, and all were a laughing stock, not even fit to run a port-a-potty. This was just one of the company's major downfalls.
LooneyTune, The Challenger and Baack Thank this.
