an apu will save you the money and comfort. well worth it, just make sure it is installed properly (air flow is key). the park smart systems are going through major growing pains and issues but all companies have that.
Thermo King, Dynasys and Carrier are the big three out there. There systems are quite similar with Dynasys being the best priced and having multiple setups (generator and auto ac system). TK and Carrier have been around a long time and run yanmar and kubota engines...i think. Dynasys runs CAT. you just have to check them out.
just get yourself a properly installed apu and save yourself the trouble of all these other systems. there is a reason apus are still around and every few years these "alternative idling systems" come and go every few years.
idleing?

Have the 2016 Cascadia with parksmart. 166,000 miles so far the ac works great for the sleeper only. I shut the curtain to separate cab from bunk and it will freeze you in Laredo in direct sunlight. The heat sucks, when it worked could keep the truck warm above your knee anything lower froze no way to direct heat to floor. Used the heat 2 months it failed freightliner ran computer on it came up with 3 codes told me may be warranty but if they found evidence of driver error I would be charged for repair. I have good blankets only need the ac

I leave it when watching TV. Or needing for heating, cooling, and light. That's when I usually leave my truck running.

I know this is an old thread but can ParkSmart cause you to have a check engine light on if the system isn't working properly?
