If you could find a statistic of the carbon footprint left from electricity generated by coal. Just for the production of energy required for climate control (heating/cooling) The difference between idling truck drivers and society in general would be astronomical.

Get away from this thread and forget these guys.

I get it, you asked a simple question about something that seems totally non-controversial and you would think that you would get some kind of an intelligent answer. In some cases you will but you have people giving odd resonses for asking a very simple obvious question. You would think the obvious answer would be, yeah I see that all the time it doesn't make sense to me. I mean I can understand it if you don't have any way for heat or air conditioning but everywhere I go all the time in every weather I just see trucks idling for no reason.

Myself, I asked the same question I don't know a month ago or something like that and I was very entertained that people would be angry, like really angry, to just simply be asked the question, hey every where I go I see trucks idling doesn't seem to make sense to me what's up with that?

What's up with that is there are a lot of ignorant people that somehow have a chip on their shoulder about polluting and wasting fuel. I know, it makes absolutely no sense but that's what it comes down to. And it's bad on the engines as well as for the planet as well as wasting fuel, but you will find people here that will not only defend that, they will be angry that you could ask such a simple obvious question. My personal favorite is when they argue that mathematics is not accurate. We all know there's nothing accurate about mathematics. Ok....

And that's the funny part. People don't get that the things that they say say so much about themselves beyond what they've actually said.

    Very funny stuff.

And whatever you do, don't suggest that they get an inexpensive generator or anything like that - how dare you, who do you think you are! What are you, a Mr. Know-it-all? Don't tell me anything about that, I just want to waste fuel and burn money and pollute the planet and then complain that rates are falling and everything is so expensive... as I literally light my money on fire. Don't be bringing all that common sense into this conversation.

See what I mean? Quite entertaining.

When people have these kinds of attitudes, that's why EPA has to step in. And believe me I'm no fan of the EPA but when people are knuckleheads, sometimes someone has to just clobber them over the head.

So my advice is to bail from this thread like I'm going to do.

I have no interest in hearing stupidity over something that is this simple and Common Sense.

    Carry on with your nonsense.

(Now listen to the brilliant responses...)

My sister thinks under 80 degrees is sweater weather

I wear sandals in 20 degree weather...

Idling for comfort is highly subjective.

A while ago when fuel are pushing $5 a gallon, I met a few large car owners who took pride in not shutting their trucks down at night. One boasted that he hasn’t shut his truck down in months and another ended up near me one night in New Mexico when the weather was great, low 60s. The truck not only had an air leak which the governor kicked off every 7 minutes, but also had the fan kicking on every 3 minutes because the a/c was running.

there was only two people I know of and talked to about not being able to start their trucks, one had lost the starter and was on the way home, the other had a cummins big cam which could not be shut down and and he is headed to his shop two days from then.

So you think that was a personal attack eh? Oh you wouldn't know a personal attack if it snuck into your house and ate both legs off and diddled your wife every weekend for 20 years. That was my being nice. You want personal attack then fine how about YOU try sitting in an oven with someone telling you "oh well its only 75 degrees out and is a wonderful day" while the inside of your METAL ####ING TRUCK is bakeing in the sun boosting the interior temp well north of 100 while its also humid not even counting the white hot exaust further boosting thst. All while that person telling you "idleing bad" is sitting in their nice air conditioned home or office likely run off a diesel powerplants power.

Then being expected by that same fool to handle a workday that is as long on average as nearly TWO of a normal 9 to 5 guys shift while not having any of the comforts of home like say our own toilet or showers or our hobbies that dont have 50,000 people a day using them and leaving them of questionable cleanleness and dealing with raving ####### zipping around you all gods #### day long in 2 ton metal boxes trying to kill you. while further treating you as less human then raw sewage. This while dealing with dispatchers that have in some cases literally told you that because you needed to take a dump you should have just worn diapers instead because they scheduled the load down to the litteral second and you should do all this on piss poor sleep while trying to rest in a litteral oven because its a "nice day out"

All while some work from home no knowing desk jockey tells us how mean and evil we are for idleing and polluteing the enviroment after they or people like them forced emissions systems onto us that cost us tens of thousands of dollars a year in breakdowns getting annoyed at being shamed constantly for wanting to have at least SOME minor comfort at a JOB where we can go weeks or months away from home and the #### truck IS our home. A job that we do just so you can waltz into the nearest starbucks and have your $10 coffee that WE delivered all so you can moan about us big bad truckers.

Hows that for a personal attack bucco and this is still my being "nice" trust me this is a soor subject for us because guess what! Its illegal to leave a dog in a car even for a few minutes because it could get heatstroke but yet some moron thinks because we are human we can suffer and as a result lead us to conclude you think of us as less then animals.

How do you THINK we are going to react especially when we need to explain this every #### day to "people" like you who wouldnt understand it if we beat it into your skull with a sledge hammer.

Very, ive had to many morons come up and yell ay me for idleing. Even though guess what I HAVE A #### APU i VERY rarely idle infact i activly squick when i need to and even said that. Bucco there seems to have selective hearing though. And it still infurates me when they pretend to be being nice. I actully was trying to be nice and give him the common reasons why people would idle. I really was, but then he came off half ####ed so im going to go full on rooster at attention mode for him if he wants to play these games. I have a VERY low tolerance for that sort to begin with less so now. Especially after having one of them walk up and shut my truck off then take my keys while i had my trailer in the air using the PTO to hold it up to offload onto a belt then refuse to give them back till i finished unloading which i couldnt BECAUSE IT NEEDED TO IDLE TO USE THE #### PTO. Sure the punk got fired but ive been VERY intolerant of that sort since.
