I never said I don't sit in traffic- we all have our share of that. all i meant was I shut my truck off whenever it's practical. once in a while I get a 'stuck' red light too.

as far as Fri the 13th goes, I've had LOTS of those this year! LOL!

I don't care who you are or how you drive you cannot get a 1% idle time. I am so sure about I would bet a months pay.( numbers off of the ECM)

My safety guy at the company tells me my idle time is up there. So i asked him if he likes being home in his comfortable A/C every night. He says yes. I have a KW clean power on my truck, to put it bluntly: It sucks. I am in SoCal every week (Brawley, El Centro area). It gets upwards of 100 on a cool day. My clean power WILL not keep with that heat. He shut his mouth after that.

My comfort is first and foremost in my mind. I don't give a rats ##### what my safety or company tell me. If they put a T/K or Carrier on here, then i wouldn't idle.

Those who don't know what a K/W clean power is, it is like the Nite system. 5-6 hours of cool, not cold air. It operates on Gel Packs and batteries. If your gonna buy a K/W, don't buy one with this thing on there. It is less than useless.

Companies with this attitude are one of the reasons I said the hell with trucking for good. Things like Klean Power are forced into production, all in the supposed name of "safety, saving fuel, and "doing your part" for the environment." Since it looks good on paper no real world testing seems fine and dandy to everyone but the driver who is stuck with it, and promotional lies in magazines seem to rant and rave about how great this junk is.

Those of us without APU's or those of us stuck with worthless things like KleanPower are just supposed to "suck it up", or face the wrath of some moron desk job paper pusher who sees only numbers and knows nothing about what its really like out there. One of the companies I used to work for bought a bunch of KW trucks with that Kleanpower garbage which allowed them to stick that idiotic "EPA smartway" sticker on most the trucks in the fleet. And in typical "New generation trucking company fashion" the office people all hop around shouting hip hip hooray like a bunch of clueless "yes men."

The drivers, on the other hand, are forced to live miserable lives and stuck with garbage that has no real world testing. Then if you're forced to idle when the junk doesn't work right (or at all) your Quallcom decides you were a bad, bad boy and sets the speed limiter in your truck ungodly slower for Lord knows how long.

My last trucking company could care less how much I idled, but I've dealt with more than a few Nazi shippers/receivers who would force you to shut off your engine or they wouldn't load or unload you. For all the headaches and maintenance problems, APU's and things like Klean Power simply aren't cost effective for small fleets in my opinion.

Here in Louisiana it has been 100-104 at 80% humidity, if you turn off the A/C in the truck, even though it's a day cab, it takes probably 30-40 minutes before it is comfortable again. So I idle all the time, my boss doesn't care and I am not penalized for it. So, I guess my idle time might be as much as 50%. Gotta love the frickin' heat. :biggrin_2556:

I don't c how a truck without an apu would not be allowed to idle, I'm with Werner and if u dont have an apu they dont mind the idling. They are a strict company im just glad they are not beyond common sense. On the other hand some states dont even let u idle.
