The 34 is getting me a full day at home for saturday. I'll have no hours and wont gain any back for 2 days, and ill be back at the terminal tomorrow
Anyway, this is all why i work for a real trucking company. They dont have any device on the truck to track it at all (they track MPG through my logbook odometer recordings and fuel card purchases though), i fuel wherever i want (as long as they take comdata), my truck is governed at 80 MPH, they dont care if i idle. And yes, i previously said truck was ungoverned, didnt realize it was until today...but you have to admit....thats a lot faster than I plan to drive!

Hey Phro remember at 80 with that tanker and you hit the brakes hard that surge is going to be like kicking on the thrusters! Good maybe for an extra 100 feet maybe! ROFL! I loved hauling asphalt! That stuff when it got started almost would take the front of the tank off and it's baffled! LOL
-
But its nice to be able to pass swifty without it taking all day.
I've never hauled anything thicker than TFA.
that said, lol, you shoulda seen the smile on a swift drivers face when he drove past me and i waved at him from on top of my trailer..haha. -
There ARE laws in most states requiring A/C or heat be running if a dog or cat is in the truck, but not for drivers. But in my 49 yrs,Ive observed that dogs and cats almost always get treated better than mules...and the bottom line at most trucking companies dictates that's all a driver is ...a rented mule. Work him/her til they drop then hook a new one to the plow.

There might be laws about Cages and RVs But if you search on here you will see that one of the Admins ( a lady) has spent a lot of time and Money fighting this, she is very well informed, considering she is California and is working hard to fight for out RIGHT to idle, but she will tell you as i am about to.
THE IDLING WITH PETS is a RUMOR and only that. There is nothing in the Laws that say a Driver can IDLE with a PET.
She Brought this up in California and got a response that will floor you. as I can not quote her word for word, search some more on IDling laws on this site.Last edited: Jul 26, 2010

NY has anti-idling law. I was there one night. I didn't idle. It was 54* out when I woke up. NJ? They have the law. Not enforced where I parked. PA? Idle law anthing over 5 tons. Haven't seen it enforced either.
Walmar distribution centers are anti-idle everywhere. Only one I idled at was in Robert Louisiana.
There is too much unnecessary idling going on in many truck stops. Ungodly heat when you walk through the parking area. Common sense guys!
I am not a fan of the TV room in the trucks stops. Ignorant, stinky, mouthy #######es in there. I want to be alone not listening to somone's BS. Furniture is greasy and black. Carpets are filthy, and some states still allow smoking.
With more Pilots in the world I guess you can sit in the Subway, or Arby's and get chased out for loitering. You can go to the game room and listen to the video games and sit on a worn out stool. Spend what little money you have on them.
I like my computer, DVD's and sleep.
I really don't give a flip about sports, or the nipple headed shows that most watch. TV caters to the lowest common denominator.JerrytAZ Thanks this. -
what is a typical "average" idle percentage?
My company asks to keep it as low as you can, but I'm not a fan of humidity. My 'owner' hasn't really raised a stink about my idling, but I would like to avoid giving him any reason to raise a stink about anything... Since he is the guy signing my paychecks. But I would like to know what you guys are typically hitting. I try to keep the truck off as much as I can, but I'm dont like waking up in a pool of sweat, and I dont think it's necessary for any fleet owner to expect his drivers to 'suck it up' when the temps get too high.
I like the cooler temps, being from Minnesota, I can handle cold temps. But I can't stand hot/humid. So driving through the south these last few weeks haven't really been the best for me. I can't wait for fall though, nothing like waking up when it's 50*s outside. Great way to start a day! Really helps wake you up!
