Idol and derate

    Can a T-680 idol while in derate mode with the air or heat on? The APU air conditioning coolant lines are connected to the truck radiator. I ran the APU over night then turned it off for an hour or two the fired it up. That’s when the derate kicked in. Can i idol it again while stopped for the night?

    APU will run your derate is some other problem unless low on antifreeze possibly.. often a derate occurs when exhaust cools off and a burn is needed upon start up .. The t680 I had wouldn’t do a burn if derate was present . Out of desperation one time in the middle of nowhere without cell service I held rpm at 1500 with my foot for about 30 minutes in minus 30 weather it cleared dpf enough for a burn to start and problem was gone after that.
