I accidentally hit post before I could finish my title.

If drivers need to know English to drive in the U.S., then drivers should also be required to know French if they drive through the whole region of Quebec.

I know all you drivers who are so passionate about drivers being able to speak English will be equally as passionate as all of you having to learn French.

    Fair is fair.

That's similar to saying drivers should speak Russian if they drive through Chicago.

Well….if I were going to live, work, and base my business in Quebec it would only be correct and fair if I learned and conducted my affairs in French. Otherwise, I have no obligation to learn French. Not if I drive into, or through Quebec, for business or otherwise.

Can't object to that a bit.
    Same for going into Mexico.

How about everybody just stay on their side of the border. We can probably make tortillas and back bacon ourselves

It isn't about being fair, it is about following the law.

why is it when I hitch hiked all thru Quebec in the early 70's everybody spoke English, then I start driving a truck up there in the late 80's it's "OH, we only speak French up here".

if it was actually France, sure.

south Florida should pretend to be Cuba, Cal Mexico, ect, ect, ect.

I'd take that deal. The FMCSA rules have required US CDL drivers to read, write, understand English for decades. What's unfair about enforcing the rule that's been in place for decades and was only recently NOT ENFORCED?
