That was a pretty inspirational post, Hedon.
If you look into the real history of trucking (hint- it's not on the CB), you'll find that even in the "Golden Years" of trucking, truckers were complaining about the same things: price of fuel and tires, low rates, so on and so forth. Yeah, compared to now, things were much better, but hindsight is 20/20.
Ever hear the saying "The older I get, the better I was!" It's kinda like that.
Best of luck to you.
If everyone else jumped off a cliff...

Hear,Hear, to you Hedon that was an excellent post. I wish the best to you and your honey. Happy trails to you and watch out for the potholes guy.

Thanks guys.
I think we may have good news soon. Looks like we might have found a great older trailer. We're going down Monday to give it a good look over and make the final decision on it, but right now it would be hard to find enough problems to make us back away from it.
Trailer has e-track, strong floor, straight walls, solid roof, new brakes, new tires and custom paint job. From the pictures it looks like it's in really extremely good shape. The one drawback is the color. The trailer was custom painted to match the guy's tractor and will probably look horrible with our tractor. Sigh.
I know we went into this adventure firmly agreeing that we didn't care what our equipment looked like as long as it was very sound mechanically and priced right... but honestly.... Stace is seriously stoked about the trailer, but secretly I'm kinda hoping that we get down there and find out there are lots of mechanical problems with it. That's wrong isn't it? -

I can understand your issue about the color-match. Like I told my wife, I wasn't nuts about my tractor when I started, but I wanted to keep overhead to the bare minimum. I put it in plan to upgrade within the following year. My trailer on the other hand, I plan on keeping it as long as possible. It pretty much rocks!
Maybe you can upgrade your trailer or bank some $$ for a matching paint job down the road.
I know we'd all like to see pictures of the trailer too -
I'll definitely post pics if we buy it... which we will if everything he's said turns out to be true... and you just know he's probably the only honest trucker out there selling a trailer right now. Sigh.JustSonny Thanks this. -
Contrast is good.

Hurrah!!
The horribly ugly trailer was completely not what he said it was. Oh, it did have new paint and the brakes were almost new. The tires were no where near 90% and... wait for it... every single cross member was rusted to the point that they were crumbling. Some of them were so bad you could just poke on them and they literally fell apart.
So we said, "Thanks, but no thanks," and walked away. Well, actually we sort of ran away. -
Well good for you!
Now... can you post a picture of the trailer? -
I sure can. Remember that it's not in and of itself an ugly trailer so you kinda have to imagine it flying along behind our tractor...
