As long as his eye doctor says his eyes meet cdl requirments, DMV can't over ride the doc. Mine tried they found out different. Alot of people are being denied cdl's from dmv's and physicals. But the eye doctor's has Final Say!!!! Good Luck!
If you can barely read this click here! dmv vision question.

Not everyone is correctable to 20/20 even with lenses. Some folks have distortions of the cornea that prevents "perfect" correction. I have astigmatism that most of the time does not affect my otherwise 20/15 vision. When I get tired, though, my vision goes to h*** in a handbasket. I'll wager it gets as abad as 20/50 in my right eye. So I put on a pair of glasses to straighten it out. But even then, it won't get better than about 20/30. Contact lenses are out of the question because I've had surgery on my eyes.
So, Strat57...you gonna tell me to get off the road, too?
Rerun: thank you for your well worded response to the armchair optometrist and your usual excellent information.just lil me, Rerun8963 and strat57 Thank this. -
We have drivers out there with an IQ of 50. Living proof anyone can drive.
Sounds like you are near sighted and far sighted in that eye. You might need bifocals. I would go to a different doctor. Your case is nothing unusal that can't be fixed. Probably a poor prescription from the first doc. Everyone makes mistakes. Including doctors. -
can you read this? 20/20 vision is when you can read the fourth line from the bottom, not the last line.Last edited: Jan 8, 2011
Rerun8963 Thanks this. -
I love Rerun's "put 'em in their place" posts! Uhh..don't do to to me, though!!

Rerun throws it out factual and blunt! Listen to the man, he knows his sh##!
I am currently a student of Rerun and am learning the ways of the wise one!
If I am not mistaken, anything above 20/20 is really good vision.

Yes.... I proclaimed myself a "wannabe" right off and also stated it was my opinion! I never said I was a "professional" or "playing doctor"..... again, I'll remind you.... just offering an opinion! But that certainly brings up a point to ponder about some "professionals".... Reading comprehension!
I sure fine it odd that you didn't respond to his post back 2/21/2010 when "dirtmerchant" posted a question about his eye vision then?! Hmmm... was it beneath you then.... or you just didn't spot it? Maybe failed to investigate the original poster to see if he had other questions relating before attempting to belittle my post?
Here's the link.... http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...103152-vision-requirements-20-30-20-40-a.html
Personally I wear glasses to correct my vision.... and it's something I've given considerable thought about. Seriously, If I had to go to my eye doctor to get a "special" waiver to circumvent a standard DMV eye exam I'd surely give it a considerable amount of weight in my decision to drive.... period!
By the way.... were were all the rest of you who are offering "praise" to Rerun8963, where are your posts of support in the above mentioned link??
Rerun8963.... you're point is well taken regarding certain gauges and the shift pattern.... but if someone has trouble reading it initially! You get my drift? That's what I was referring to!
Hopefully if he gets his CDL he'll never have to slip seat and find himself in an unfamiliar truck and surroundings with less than acceptable correctable vision!
Again..... I was merely pointing out things he or she may have trouble reading at a quick glance!
Just one more quick thought or "personal opinion"..... Knowing ones limitations regarding their body and health and acting with this in mind is simply a prudent approach to many situations in life. I sure find as I get older it's best to give it greater consideration!
So I'll stick to my original opinion offered..... Maybe the rest of you feel comfortable knowing the physical requirements can be circumvented simply with a doctors excuse. And as one response possibly suggested, don't like what one doctor says.... simply "doctor shop" until you hear what you want!
So I guess I wouldn't consider a driving career and the expense of schooling if I thoughe my eye sight or lack there of, may become a major issue in a few years!
There ya go vultures.... Have at it, it's a forum.... opinion and self righteous cyberbullying are welcome!
