I want to haul freight to california, does somebody know if it's possible to apply online for permit (ifta or highway use tax) as is done for KY & NY highway use tax permit?
Is there any other way to apply(want to do it myself)
    Thank you,
    Amora

    You might start here.
    https://etax.dor.ga.gov/motorfuel/ifta_faq.aspx

Then here for your New Mexico weight distance tax.

Then you will want to verse yourself in the California laws regarding air pollution.

And if you were going to Oregon here.

This is assuming that you are set up with the IRP and registered for each state.

Since you live in Atlanta, you could go by the IRP and IFTA offices and apply in person. That way, should you have any questions they could help on the spot. You can expect to spend a good portion of the day. You can also have them mail the forms to you and do it at home and at your leisure. You will have a lag time from the time you fill out the paperwork until it comes in the mail. Once you receive your first IFTA and cab card, the state will automatically send out the forms for the next year. My state is starting to have everyone who owns class 8 trucks to do all the paperwork online. I believe next year you will need to do it online in my state. I am not sure about Georgia. It might help to call your state IRP and IFTA offices and speak with them. I believe that they are in the same building. Mine are even in the same office.

In addition to IFTA, you need to make sure that you list all states that you plan on traveling on your IRP or cab card. If not then you can either add them or get trip permits for those states at their port of entry or online. If you do any intrastate loads in California you will also need California authority.
