I am a bit late to renew the IFTA decals. I read somewhere there is a grace period: two months. So, I'm down to renew these today. But then it tells me other info that I'm late and should have done it by Dec. 31, the last day to be compliant. Why do they give misguided information? So, there isn't any grace period if there is a penalty for it, and I'm late already. Do you know what's the penalty?
I'm mad at myself since I believed there is a grace period. I renewed today. Can they suspend me? Can I operate now?
Also, I didn't set up the account originally. Another person ordered the decals for me. I did log in to Mytax Illinois, and I had to put all officers, etc. I am not sure what the person did originally. I put myself as president, my wife as secretary, and myself as the treasury. Though I am not sure if the info matches with the given info originally by someone else.
Also, there were jurisdictions, and I just didn't enter any info there.
I don't know if it will be denied or I have to modify the application.
I did file my quarterly IFTA today.
I see TALLJOE is from the midwest. Maybe, he can tell me what to expect now.

I had a problem with the website for Pa, so I could not order my stickers.
I went to the motor fuel office, but they are closed for covid. Finally, I got an appointment for Tuesday.
She said the stickers are good until the end of Feb. She said all of the staes should respect that because it is a multi state agreement.
Get an appointment as soon as you can, definitely by the end of Feb. But you'll be ok until then.
That's the best advice I can give you.Coffey Thanks this. -
Okay. I believe I might have to pay the penalty to the state. It's so misleading though. So many sites say you have a grace period, nothing about problems if you don't file by Dec. 31st. Hopefully, I won't get suspended.
I hope by adding my wife as a secretary won't cause any additional problems. -
MEMORANDUM TO: FROM: DATE: RE: IFTA Licensees and Member Jurisdictions IFTA, Inc. Team www.iftach.org October 1, 2020 IFTA Credential Grace Period
This Memorandum is being issued in an effort to clarify the above-referenced.
Thee IFTA Articles of Agreement, Section R655 provides: R655 GRACE PERIOD .100 .200
Carriers from new member jurisdictions shall be allowed a two-month grace period from the date of the new member's IFTA program implementation to display the IFTA license and decals. However, carriers must maintain the proper credentials for traveling in member jurisdictions until they display the valid IFTA license and decals.
Carriers renewing their IFTA license and decals have a two-month grace period (January and February) to display the renewal IFTA license and decals. To operate in IFTA jurisdictions during this grace period, carriers must display either valid current or prior year IFTA license and decals from the jurisdiction in which they were operating or a valid single-trip permit from the IFTA jurisdiction in which they are operating.
Because there are no new member jurisdictions implementing the IFTA in 2018, R655.200 above is the applicable language for the grace period in 2021.
Carriers must display one or more of the following to travel through IFTA member jurisdictions for the first two months of 2021. 1) A valid 2021 IFTA license and two IFTA decals issued by an IFTA member jurisdiction.
2) A valid 2020 IFTA license and two IFTA decals from an IFTA member jurisdiction (if a renewal application has been filed for 2021); or
3) A valid trip permit issued by the IFTA member jurisdiction through which they are operating.
Please be advised that IFTA License Renewals for 2021 MUST BE FILED WITH YOUR BASE JURISDICTION BEFORE THE END OF 2020.
Thee two-month grace period is for display of renewal credentials, not to file your renewal application for those credentials (See R655.200 above).
In order to have a seamless operation into the new calendar year, we encourage you to file your renewal application with your base jurisdiction well before December 31, 2020.
R630 of the IFTA Articles of Agreement provides: Carriers renewing credentials may operate with the IFTA decals and license two months prior to the effective date shown on the credentials. However, those carriers are responsible for filing a fourth quarter report for the year preceding the effective date of the new credentials, including all operations for that quarter.
If you have any questions or comments, please contact your base jurisdiction.
The above is from IFTA website.
You need to renew by 12-31-2020 you until the end of February 2021 to display new stickers.
Your company officials can change every year, doesn't really matter. Op you could be all three officers.
Good luck.Last edited: Jan 3, 2021
