We are using a "trip log" created by my predecessor, but it does not contain all the info that I see on the dozens of versions of the IFTA log that are on the internet. In fact, my current log contains only date, location and mileage for each trip and the driver indicates where he got fuel and gives me the receipt. Must we use some State version of the IFTA log? I don't want to be a pain to the drivers, but I want to comply with the law.

The IFTA regs are very clear on the data that is required on the "trip sheet". But they don't care how you format the sheet . Everyone's will look different but so long as it collects the required information, it's fine. But it sounds like you're not gathering enough information.

I use the three part trip sheet, fuel ticket, rate confirmation and logbook.
If I get 2nd truck going it will become the six part sheet.
