All these safty guys need to get out here and see what really go's on then maybe some of the noncense will stop. How can a car run down the shoulder clip your bumber take off and you get nailed for a preventable accident, insane. And not all truck rollovers are preventable. But in this lovely industry the driver is allways at fault no matter what.

Our safety guys are ex-drivers. We have preventable and non preventable accidents all the time. If you work for a company where the safety department and other departments are idiots then who's the fool?
moujick Thanks this. -
The only non-preventable accident that I know of is hitting a deer.moujick Thanks this.

50% of all accidents involve stationary objects ( poles, parked cars)
What would be your excuse for that one? "The tree just came out of nowhere"
All kidding aside, most companies will look at the guidelines held in the Smith System. Did the driver have enough space in front of him? Was it snowing?Raining? Did the driver have a 10 hour break before starting his day?moujick Thanks this. -
NO SIR..........!!!
not entirely true at all..........
i personally have worked for companies that state in thier company manuals that if you hit a deer, and the hit took place where there are signs warning of deer, you WILL BE CHARGED with a preventable.........!!!!!
just ask YOUR safety dept if what i say is true or false.........they WILL tell you.
now, NO ONE can predict when or where a deer will jump out into the road, that's a given..........but if its clearly marked, "animal crossing or deer crossing next X number of yards, miles", etc, you can be "whacked again" by your company.
your only "saving grace" in that particular situation is the deer (animal strike) took place just beyond the marked area.
i will refer you to read this board..............http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...s/122230-deer-hit-a-preventable-accident.html

I think most of it is on a case by case basis. There are a lot of variables usually involved with accidents. They really need to re-word it though because an accident happens by accident. Should be called non-preventable crash or crash or something to that effect.

Thank you all

Trucking companies can use a lot excuses for charging you a preventable accident. Even if it was the other persons fault. In my opinion it is just another excuse to tack something on a driver.

I was lucky. My only deer strike caused no damage to the rig (but that deer got one heck of a flying lesson!). Running at 100k Gross, 60 mph by Spokane Wa. He was moving from left to right, so I hit the jakes and moved smoothly to the left lane. Had cut my speed to 50 mph, when he cut back in front of me. At the last second, he turned and lowered his head to try to head-but my rig..... perfect hit on the bumper. Oh well, at least he went down fighting.

Swift called it non-preventable. -
What about a tree falling on the truck, moving or stationary?
