Dude, I will say this again, you need to engage us about what you want to do.

So far you didn't mention your needs or goals.

You are making too many assumptions and presume that you can do something that is not only risky but also many times ends up screwing everyone involved.

Having the money for the truck isn't the issue, having the money to maintain it, to keep it in service and so on is the hard part. Taking money out of the revenue for most is nearly as impossible as self-control when you win the big lottery for most, they won't do it.

I wouldn't be involved with a lease with anyone, I can lose too much money when there is a service failure or they turn into cowboys.

As for Captain Deudermont, he has a good point about etiquette, but to me this business isn't the place to sugar coat anything for any reason.

There was this guy I know that became a L/O with our company after leaving Swift. He and I became friends and he looked to me for advice and to teach him some things. There were times, after he would ignore my advice and screw up somehow that I would verbally slap him upside the head ( I can be a bit acerbic, at times) . After one of those times he asked me, "Why you gotta be so mean, sometimes?", to which I answered, "If I were to use a warm and fuzzy tone of voice, coddling you in one instance and verbally #####-slap you in another instance, which will get your attention most?"
He said he'd remember the less nice way more. Now, there are times for soft talk, but when the OP is right-out-of-the-gate ####y, that is not one of those times. Like my sig line says, "Truckin' ain't for sissies." Either suck it up and get over it or turn your CB off, Cupcake. There's a reason Drill Sergeants aren't sweet as pie.

I'm going have to disagree there.

I started out leased on. I've developed my own business model while leased on. My carrier encouraged and allowed everything I wanted.

I now have 2 trucks and a driver leased on. Its working out very well.

Cord will get cut eventually. Everything in due time.

You are the exception to the rule- Very rare does it ever work out to the truck owners financial platform.
1 out of 10 win the game putting a truck under another persons operating habits

Knowledge is power. No internet research will ever be the same as real life experience. I said the same thing in another thread. Spend 3-5 years in someone else's truck. Pay attention to numbers, especially maintenance and repair costs. Look at rates. Maybe try a few different aspects of the industry in that time to see where you would fit in most. Your not far from NYC. I know there can be decent rates if you don't mind running there. I don't have the patience myself. Another big thing you need to consider with no significant experience is insurance.

Have you ever been in a room full of seasoned truckers? Seasoned men who like to think for themselves?

This is a lot like that. We dont sit around in a circle holding hands, singing kumbaya, or giving each other atta-boys.

We size each other up. What does he have that I want? Whats the best strategy to get what he has? The weaker men will get assimilated. The stronger men will stand out and make their own road.
