    Getting a CDL in Illinois is a total pain in the ###, which is why I’ll never give it up. You can thank our ex-governor George Ryan for that one, selling CDLs to illegals and people with no official training was one of the several things that bought him a long stay at Club Fed.

    I don't think its that bad. I passed pre-trip and skill on first try. I failed road test once because I stalled.

    I understand that the governor did a very horrible thing. I mean a family was killed. Innocent family I should add, but if you earned your cdl in another state it should be good ANYWHERE. Is IL the only state that does this???? Should I move to Indiana and do a 45 min or so drive to Chicago for a job???

    Sorry to hear of your predicament. Is Indiana closer to where you want to be? When I looked into getting a CDL-A in Florida knowing I was going to move to Wisconsin I called the Wisconsin DMV expecting some administrivia nightmare.

    Instead, they told me that when I went to a local DMV office to get a Wisconsin drivers license the CDL-A and endorsements would all transfer immediately.

    Some Illinois drivers do that. They use a family member or friends address in another state.
