Times like this, no argument here. Most times I'm fine with the elogs but there are times I miss the ability to fudge 15 minutes.
Now I gotta listen to this embryo tell me everything in hindsight and argue that I could have parked there (she's looking right at it, you know).
That's what bugs me the most. The coaching, maybe a writeup, okay. I got it coming, hindsight is 20/20, should have left and came back in the morning (figured 1.5 hours was enough for a drop/hook and a 30 mile drive, didn't figure on the big traffic jam that time of night). It's the "You could have parked here, here, there, three blocks over, there's parking everywhere, why didn't you park? I see trucks on the street, don't tell me you can't park there," that boils me. She claims she's a former driver; if she's ever driven OTR, I'll dance in a pink leotard.
I get any of that "You could have" lip tomorrow I swear I will resign. I've had one of THOSE days and the attitude is going to carry over to morning. Compounded by my non existent pay because someone forgot about breakdown pay last week (2 days in the shop) followed by a couple of 200 mile days, sorry short week. At least they did reimburse for the hotel stays.
Gotta call dispatch and get a Comcheck for the breakdown pay so we can eat this week. Slow weeks have caught up to me and the few good weeks I've had were used up catching up on past due bills.
I'm baaaaaack!!!!!!!!

Isn't there some sort of "safe haven" exception? Or is that just for weather related problems?
Dominick253 Thanks this. -
I'm pretty sure it's just for weather. I'll find out when I call safety.
In other news, Gordon is proving reluctant to give me A Comcheck for the breakdown pay missing from my check.Dominick253 Thanks this. -

You're right it just applies to drivers with haz-mat cargo. 395.1(b)(1) applies to adverse weather and road conditions unknown to you at the start of your trip. This might include accidents but not rush hour traffic.
Dominick253 Thanks this. -
@Pintlehook: Just to cut the check; they wanted to put it on next week's check. I talked them into it.
@TB: Yeah, I had an unpleasant conversation with safety this morning that had The Hot Chick staring open mouthed at the phone (they were on speaker).
I was told I should have parked at shipper without permission, or parked illegally on the side of the road.
I didn't bother asking if they would have helped me with the ticket and tow bill. That was **** stupid advice.Dominick253 Thanks this. -
your safety nazi is a little out of control, do they even hear themselves directing you to do something illegal over a minor infraction ? 15 minutes big deal if it is only happening once in a while write a reprimand and forget about it after all local guys are allowed to go over the 14 by 2 hours 1 time a week
Dominick253, Captain Zoom and HeWhoMustNotBeNamed Thank this. -
Yeah, one of those times where being on paper logs would have turned into "15 minutes? What 15 minutes?
When I drove for (shudder) Swift several years ago I went over my 11 by about 20 minutes on one occasion. Want to know the total number of people who knew about it?
Two. Me, and my wife who was riding with me at the time. Was on paper logs and I was able to doodle things which would not at all trigger the B.S from some cubicle rat in safety. Had a choice between stopping at a crappy rest area and being "true to the letter of the FMCSA" or pushing an extra 20 minutes to a truck stop. Yep, I chose the extra 20 minutes to a truck stop because SHOWERS, that's why.Dominick253, TB John and Captain Zoom Thank this. -
@Dale: THANK you. I called her as a courtesy, to give her a heads up and acknowledge my violation and accept whatever discipline she decided was appropriate. I expected a writeup, maybe mandatory log training. I got a lecture about being required to park illegally. I was in a construction zone and had nowhere to go, did she want me to stop in the traffic lane and block traffic? She literally told me to park illegally.
And they wonder why they're bleeding drivers so badly. I'm really upset about this and so's The Hot Chick. She said she wouldn't have believed me if she hadn't heard it herself.
@Gereke: Heh heh heh..."Cubicle rat"Dominick253 and TB John Thank this. -
Isn't your bullcrap meter pegged yet?
Dominick253 Thanks this.
