Pilot in East Saint Louis IL for the night. Up early, fuel truck and reefer (don't forget DEF), then dash to Indy to write up The Ox.
Celadon has decided to use the fleet I'm in to try a new program where they will rely entirely on the onboard scales on the trailers and not authorize/reimburse CAT scales. You heard that right. The Weigh Right in my current trailer is inoperative. I had to pay for my scale ticket on this 45,000 pound load.
I'm anxiously awaiting the backlash to hit that idiot accountant who came up with this hair brained scheme to cut expenses. I don't expect this program will last long. They'll lose experienced drivers first, then the noobs will filter out as they get overweight tickets. I've got a little staying power and am willing to keep my scale tickets against tax time. This is one of the stupidest decisions I've ever seen. Next they'll be telling us to run the DEF down to 1/8th tank or below before refilling it, to save money at the pumps.
Where did these guys go to school (scratching head)!?
(There was a decision a while back to age the fleet and only do DOT repairs, like Schneider did for a while. Some high level executives lost his job after they lost like 400 drivers in the first six weeks.)
I'm baaaaaack!!!!!!!!

I've broken out in hives. On the back of my right shoulder and right triceps, along with a small spot on my right hand. Benadryl cream (extra strength) coming into play. What gives!?
Guess I'm stopping at the clinic tomorrow too. Wish I had Benadryl pills to take but no joy. I'll probably buy some tomorrow. Can't take them during the day but they're GREAT to take at night.Dominick253 Thanks this. -

It was 88 degrees today when I rolled into our yard in the city of industry today around noon.
Is it February or July!!!??
Dang it's hot this week!!!Dominick253 Thanks this. -
That scale thing is nothing new. Knew a team there a while back that told me that same story.
Still incredibly stupid on Celadon's part.Dominick253 Thanks this. -
I thought I heard ßomething about Swift trying the same thing, only they would pay for scale tickets only if the load was over 42,000. ??? Could be wrong, but it was in some discussion topic recently.

Celadon has always only paid for scales on heavy loads (long as I've known them anyway). They don't want to pay to scale a 30,000 load, fine. But I think they're relying too much upon onboard technology. The CAT scale will stand up in court. The Weigh Right won't. It's cheap insurance.
I don't think this little test is going to be successful. And I certainly don't think the guy who dreamed it up has ever driven a truck for a living.Dominick253 and mitrucker Thank this. -
The rule when I worked there was anything over 30k got weighed.
-
Now it's "use the Weigh Right"
Dominick253 Thanks this. -
Someone sold the concept to the company.
Just saying, you need a printout of the weight(s). And a company policy that they stand behind the accuracy of the appliance in question.Dominick253 and Captain Zoom Thank this.
