Loved the first one with Yamaha 24V V6 and dual intake runners and a manual, fastest 4-door sedan on the planet when it debuted. If mine had been a 1st gen SHO 5 speed instead of a GLS with the self destructing AXOD automatic I'd have rated it differently. 2nd gen SHO with V8 and compulsory slush box was slower, heavier, less agile, and uglier than a hairy butt crack. Actually resembled an extrusion from said hairy region. Current version--jury is out. Haven't driven one. All the pieces are there that it needs, and it looks worlds better than the last one. Ford needs to educate themselves on their own heritage, though. It's being marketed as the Taurus SHO (pronounced "SHOW") and sales people don't know the car's origins as an affordable world beater. Or even what the letters mean.

I do know that the ecoboost V6 is a great hairy sledgehammer of an engine. With real hair. And teeth.

My 635 was a German market car originally, which meant metric instruments. Plus the speedo didn't even work. Was cruising I-40 on my way home from work two days after I bought it art what I thought was around 65 or so and got nailed for 127. In a 55. Cost me a pretty in attorney's fees but got it reduced to improper equipment. And I learned to tell my speed by the tach in top gear.

Well engineered automobiles don't convey much of a sense of speed.

I currently own an 04 Crown Vic LS Sport (yes, they did actually have a "sport" model. It is distinguished by its leather bucket seats, floor mounted shifter, and 24 extra hp due to diffent intake runners and true dual exhaust) and I love it. While admittedly not very sporty, it does have a very retro feel to the way it drives and handles. Also, I have two young kids so I needed a big car, and I couldn't see myself in an SUV. When I need to get my kicks, I just take the wife's '12 Mazdaspeed 3 for a spin (when she lets me).

I had the 5 speed manual in mine. Transmission was made by Mazda.

The Crown Vic you have is vastly superior to my old one (it was a 1987 model). And the Sport is a stout family carriage. The fun thing about those that all the hot rodding tricks that work so well on Mustanga of the era will work on your car too. I've seen a couple that have been massaged into BMW M killers with superchargers, suspension and brake upgrades, and even one with a Tremec T6 toploader. There's a reason they were so popular with the police for so long.

I'd love to own a Sport. Or a nice Marauder.

Man, I'd love to get my hands on one now. Seems most of them are either beaten to death or overpriced show queens nowadays though.

Wouldn't mind an old Thunderbird Super Coupe either--in white, with 5-speed please.
