Tolerance to schedule disruption varies from none at all, to what the heck is a circadian rhythm? The ones with no tolerance will usually end up in an institutional environment, far from trucks, from what I have observed.
Breakdowns tend to be the worst disrupters, in my experience, but not having a split break to work with because of timing isn't good either when doing refrigerated. Hence, why CZ and so many others want dry box instead. But it is usually referred to as irregular truckload for abundant reasons, no matter what the trailer or cargo is.
Hauling livestock isn't quite what it would seem, either.
I'm baaaaaack!!!!!!!!

PFFFFFFFFFT!!
Pocketaces, wasn't trying to be rude. To answer your question, if you have planned your day in accordance with finishing your load, going to sleep, and getting a reload in the morning, and you get a call in the middle of the day begging you to drop everything with zero notice at like 1300 and go get this other driver's load at 0100 and the only way to get it to the consignee on time is to drive straight through from 0100, and you have to drive 2 hours to get the load to begin with, you have to stop all activity and leave at 2300 and pull a full shift from that point. Problem is, at 1300 you're wide awake and unable to get enough sleep to easily pull a full shift from 2300. Remember you got zero notice. I've been unable to locate the circuit breaker on my body to pull and instantly get enough sleep. It's even worse when you've been waiting at a receiver for several hours and they want you to go off duty driving to a nearby truck stop and finish your ten, then go get the midnight banzai red eye commando run with three hours' sleep (which needed eight hours of driving).
Last two loads for me.
This one, I got to shipper and my pickup number is no good, and it needs to be in Connecticut Monday morning so I'm burning daylight waiting for the information.roadgoddess Thanks this. -

If you've never worked expediting, there is no set schedule. You could get called to run, straight thru, when you're just laying down to sleep. It's a 50mph avg run, so there isn't much time to drive it, and get a break. I've done so many touch-n-goes, it's sad. That's a big reason I've gotten out of it... no set schedule for the body to adapt to. I dread all-nighters now, because I know I can't do them anymore without at least 4 hours of sound sleep. And with everything going to electronic logs... forget it.Captain Zoom, Panhandle flash and 25(2)+2 Thank this. -
Their response to that would tell me what type of company I'm working for. -
Frankly zoomster I like it better when you're griping. Much like Barry peppers character in saving private Ryan, you gripe good
life is boring when everything's goin swimmingly for you and HC.
Ragingbull Thanks this. -
I did growl about it because I was inconvenienced and uncomfortable, but not unsafe. While I appreciate your apparent concern, I've been doing this too long to let myself be bullied into doing something dangerous or illegal. And I don't share everything here, just the highlights. Rest assured I am being well compensated for my hard work. And I got a little extra time on my current load to put my feet up and recover.albert l, Knucklehead, TB John and 3 others Thank this. -
I may eventually start philosophizing again. Right now I'm just enjoying the time of refreshing and prepping for the next disaster.TB John and scottlav46 Thank this. -
