Everytime I pick up a beer load that's dropped, I break the seal if there is even one on there. I put in load locks if it's a reefer and straps if it's a dry van, never had the straps get loose. Was a beer hauler back in the 80's and 90's and never lost even a can or bottle.
I'm baaaaaack!!!!!!!!

Cleared receiver, 72 out of 2800 cases damaged. Beer on trailer floor so sitting at Pilot with doors open to air it out in the hopes of clearing out the smell and drying the wet spots.

Get a washout if your going to haul food grade.
Panhandle flash Thanks this. -

Left the doors open for a few hours. Dried out and did okay. Went to the movies after telling dispatch to move my PTA for the morning since I'd been up since 0700. He sends me a load shortly thereafter that picks up in Nashville at 0900 with all day to deliver 400 miles away. No sweat. Get popcorn, grab seat.
Then they changed my preplan up on me. I get a buzzing phone twice during the movie. Second time I step outside and sure enough it's dispatch. I am told that they've switched me up with another truck and now I have to leave to pick up 300 miles away and I have til Thursday morning to deliver 700 miles away in Dallas.
Why do we bother with a PTA if they're going to disregard it anyway?
I'm going to have a talk with the operations manager tomorrow about this habit of theirs (this happens at least once a week). I've been out for two months without complaining (my choice) and I can't get a night off once in a while? I guess I'm supposed to sit in the driver's seat with the ignition on and my hand on the Qualcomm every second my elogs show available drive time. I work hard for these guys; it's not like I'm some kind of slacker.
I'm pulled over now and in the bunk. The coffee can only do so much. It will get there when it gets there. -
Suck it up buttercup.
Hope your ops manager has a good sense of humor because if a driver called me complaining about not having a day off after just having two 34 hour resets...one after driving all of 2400 miles and another due to tossing product....I'd be too busy laughing to take what you had to say seriously.Lone Ranger 13, Pintlehook, Pnwtrucker and 1 other person Thank this. -
Yes, one hand on the Qualcomm, key in the ignition, ready to go at all hour REGARDLESS of whatever is going on in your life! Whaddya think ya are, human? Back to work, slave!Pintlehook Thanks this.

Brsims gets it, at least...it ain't a gripe about being overworked, after a 2400 mile week. It's about getting my plans switched for me at the last microsecond. Especially when said change takes place after I've been up all day and now I have to drive overnight to make the load work.
Anyway, load delivers on time tomorrow but I have to drive overnight again so I'll be short on hours after delivery.carramrod32, mitrucker and brsims Thank this. -
Captain. Just finished reading complete thread. I am a fuel hauler in Tampa and have been driving for 5 years. My first year was OTR with Conway. I enjoyed it all but missed my kids. They live with my ex. Now my wife and I fantasize about getting a storage unit, cutting all other ties, and heading out. Like you, I want to eliminate debt and maybe even save something. (I'm 54 no savings, retirement, investments, nothing). Your running testimony has put hair and teeth on my dream and brought back memories of the road long forgotten. I tend to recall things fondly, forgetting the bad. Like the beautiful redhead I used to go with who was actually bat shift crazy. Thanks for all. I can stop dreaming and now truly consider my options. Peace.
Captain Zoom Thanks this. -
You have much free time....
Good luck whatever you decide to do Bmack, and be sure if you hit the road to put it on the wall so we can all ride along!
But don't feed the trolls.
