I know that poster don't lie. That's why he said it was stupid. Probably because they broke in which is a felony.

I understand the OP's thoughts of sort. You can break felons down into two different groups.

There's ones that were young and dumb, maybe come from a bad up bringing. They grow up, get wise and back on the right track. They have intelligence. There is nothing wrong with these people other than they made stupid choices when they were younger.

Then you have the dumb ones that have screwed up time and time again. They eventially learn to straighten up some just to stay out of jail. But they still carry that persona around if you know what I mean. Most of them you can look at and tell. They can get a job but they are not very good at making decisions.

Truck driving is all about making decisions. We make thousands of decisions everyday. Then you take someone that isn't good at making decisions and then you see all kinds of bad driving.

A good example is the state of Texas started training prisoners to get their CDL prior to their release. I don't remember the details but you can probably google it. When these prisoners got out and got trucking jobs, it was like 95% of them were in a accident their first year. Amazing! There is a direct correlation.

All apples are fruit, but all fruit isn't apples. So you can't just say all felons. I do think psychological testing should be mandatory because there are some whacko's behind the wheel. They either come into the industry that way or evolved into it being sucked into all the negatives we are around.

When you point out spelling and/or grammar errors, at least make sure you use spell check yourself.

    It is......using.....

Glad at least you know for a fact he doesn't lie!! I don't buy that BS either! Look.... we're all human and EVERYBODY lies or embellishes on the truth or omits facts to cover thier ###! I don't buy that as an excuse.

Sorry, but there's a vast difference between just stealing ice cream and committing a B&E to rob a business! But isn't it like most in society today to try and minimize things!

Hindsight might bring some to realize their actions were pretty stupid, but you can bet at the time while committing the crime there was criminal intent! Greed is in everyone....

I figure it this way.... gonna do the crime? Be willing to do the time! No excuses.

As far as second chances.... well that depends on the seriousness of the crime, their past history and not trying to minimize or blame their actions on others or "stupidity" for an excuse.

I did ops management for a while, and one of the hiring criteria was to not take on anyone on a sexual offender list. So, you are incorrect. Not all companies are the same.

So, with that mentality, maybe President Obama should revoke his pardon on Michael Vick, rip him off the gridiron and put him in a cell with angry pit-bulls for the rest of his life, no?

Your post is judgmental and painted with a broad brush. You want a chance to prove yourself with your limited experience, but a person who violated a rule of society is ###### to eternal condemnation. Double standard, Sir.

Some people make a mistake along the way. Career criminals have no place in society, nor in the workforce. I personally feel that people who commit premeditated violent crimes, ie: rape, murder, or child molestation should cease to exist. But a rehabilitated criminal, like the ice cream felon who has turned his life around shouldn't be discriminated against.

I would probably guess this it is a combination of poor screening and poor training. How can you correctly train someone to interact on the nations highways confined to prison grounds?

Yes, his spelling is atrocious. And most browsers have built in spell check, so a little effort would go a long way. Many people fail to realize that a post is not taken as seriously when it looks like it was done by someone with 3rd grade writing skills.

I only actually read it to begin with, because of the misspelling in the title. I thought he was stuck in the parking lot of a 7-11.

I have a friend who did some felony time.
He just got caught up in a bar fight.
During the fight they fell the other guy hit the floor in a bad way snapped his neck.
My friend did 5 years for involuntary man slaughter.
Wrong place wrong time and a bad fall.
Thus he should never be allowed to earn a living for his family.
    Wrong
He is one of the best drivers I know and even today I still seek his advice about things in this industry.
Hope YOU are never in the wrong place at the wrong time.

It was called Project Rio smoothshifter. They were able to get out and go to their local community college to get their training. Paid for by the state of course. That was back in 2005. I'm not sure if it's still going on.

It sounds like someone ( op) probably is not telling whole story. The person probably wants a free handout from a company. I would rather hire someone who is truly interested in turning their life around then some lazy bum who wants a charity handout.

I do believe that the big carriers are gonna be the ruin of the trucking industry. I think that a IQ test should be done before hiring. I hauled cattle with this old "stick hauler" from out east. Drove truck for 20 years or some bs. He had all the brains a bucket of sh** has. But he was able to drive the truck... To feedlots with the wrong cattle. And he was one of those guys that didn't like to shower. So anyway... I had to babysit him and I hadn't been driving for 6 months. Stupid how that works huh? Does the cat that started this post have a legitament argument. Yeah. Does he go about it correctly? Maybe not. But I do think that it is too tough for a small company to hire on drivers. And for the majority of those that go to work to for the big companies cause their gonna make the big bucks, I say: Lol!
