Big Don you are 150% correct that both ORG and Oldnewbie have so much to offer to new and old drivers alike! Just reading the post by Nobodysfool just shows that again! Both ORG and Oldnew had their own different ways of posting but we learn and laughed with them both along their journies and travels!! And hopefully we keep learning and laughing some more!!
So, do companies usually reimburse the cost for a lumper? No matter how much? I am asking becuase I am confused if the company covers the cost, why does the driver care? And if not, why does the driver pay so much (a big chunk of the income of the trip) for unloading? (I mean why not just refuse such juiceless assignment).
Hey buddy! I know we keep playing phone tag and I've been outta touch here since my laptop took a dive a week or two ago. But I'm at my folks house for a couple days and my truck is in the shop "hopefully" getting fixed while I'm here. I'll try calling you again today. I miss talking with ya my friend and oh, George was asking about you the other day too. I gave him an update as best I knew it at the time. A BIG CONGRATS on getting your truck brother!!! I'm sure you're very excited to get rolling solo out there. Just be safe and take it easy for the first few miles. I can't wait until we get a chance to cross paths and have a sit down together. I still owe you a lunch from school buddy!! Talk soon I hope.
There really is no "stock answer" to this question. Except that no company is going to reimburse for a ridiculous amount. But what constitutes a "ridiculous amount" will depend on the load, and on the company. Some companies will give you a "top figure" for lumper fees, and then it is up to the driver to negotiate for the fee with the lumper. Some companies deal directly with the lumper company, and the driver doesn't even know what the fee is, nor does he care. Those lucky drivers never have to write a comcheck to the lumper, as it is a direct bill to the trucking company. I quit one job after being screwed out of lumper fees. There is NO WAY that is going to come out of my pocket.
we are starting with swift as a team starting the 25th of the month. we aren't clear on how the team training will work during training. does anyone have any idea. we will be coming out of troutdale oregon.
Hey buddy, what's happening with you lately? I'm really sorry I haven't called but my "time off" has turned into anything but..... You can catch all (well...most all) the details in the last couple posts on my thread. I hope and pray all is good with you and your family and I look forward to "talking" with you soon! All my best buddy!
WannaBees and newBees, if y'all remember nothing else, remember what OpenRoadGuy is tellin' y'all in this post, --- he's hit the head right on the nail and given y'all something to aspire to. And it wouldn't hurt those seasoned and well seasoned Big truck truck drivers out thar who have been following ORG's excellent commentary to keep it in mind either. If y'all truly want to be the best y'all can be, OpenRoadGuy has provided the road map with detailed instructions on how to get there from here. The rest is up to y'all. The best things in life might be free, but not necessarily easy. Belated congratulations ORG. There was never any doubt in my mind that you'd succeed, --- in more than one way. Job amazingly well done, amigo. I can't remember ever being so favorably impressed. IMO, Swift is fortunate that you chose to drive a Big truck for them. Many heart felt thanx. (For the record, I've been without a computer for the past several weeks, --- and not being able to keep up with this thread, and Chris's, was drivin' me crazy. Now that I've caught up, it's all good. But I'm still crazy. Some things never change. ) Amen to that Big D! When ORG hangs up his drivin' gloves, he will have been there, done that, AND written the book to boot. A best seller, no doubt. They say that imitation is the most sincere form of flattery, --- and I agree. Ahhhh, grasshoppah, you have learned well. You are absolutely right. I couldn't have said it better. Some folks will understand, while others can't grasp that truism. It's twue! It's twue! To top it all off, some lumpers are on welfare while making that kinda money --- usually paid in cash. What are the odds that they report those earnings on their income tax every year? Yeah, that's what I was thinkin' too.
