I'm new and quoting this run, looking for helpful input.

There is risk. Equiptment will be gone in two weeks on that 5000 mile run. That's almost a month for the rig. Im thinking the payments will come due for the month soon after and that is where the equiptment costs come in. What is left goes into the kitty bank for the operation.
Im not a O/O but did recieve some training to be one and actually purchased a tractor of my own back in the 90's the information for the trip is somewhat updated for today's money. If i had a immigrant drive that tractor and load he will only get paid .30 I keep the .40. If i have a good experienced driver do it then he will be paid pretty good. Otherwise I wont keep drivers. If I was a one or 1000 truck company.
I spent some time around several fleets in which it is literally one person owning several tractors and different trailers to accomodate the needs of the local freight. Might be a bucket one day, reefer a week and a flat the next week. It's interesting. When not driving Im under there wrenching away installing parts that cost money to keep her up with a mechanic who is also being paid per hour. He is a cost.
Just getting onto the public road is a risk. That is where insurance comes in. Im very obselete but insurance is very expensive. If you broke it up into 12 months this run will cover that too somewhat. If the fuel was only 3.00 and he filled twice or three times then I wont pay so much.
So. After all that... people who are currently O/Os and have been for a while will probably point and laugh at me. Fine. But if the man wants 5000 mile run both ways loaded it's 10,000 to do it. If it is done well he might have another one. Presto 20K a month income gross. Call it 150,000 or more for one truck so far. We can still do more miles where possible. But 10K a month is not too shabby. 15K or even 20 would be even better. Push the income for the truck higher. Maybe 200K or over.
Trucking is expensive. If you want good work done by good people, pay em. Fuel is second. Tires third. Everything else? it's part of the business.
I have watched truckers hire on for a 1.25 or less to deliver a load going where they want to go and turn down a 2.50 haul going where they dont wanna go. Im taking that 2.50 thank you very much. At 2.50 for 5000, it would be a 12500 dollar freight bill payable by the man who hired everything for that two way loaded 5000 mile run. -
$1.90 per mile $9,500 or $1.85 per mile $9250. 14 days for 5,000 miles you sound like a day or Two sitting and waiting. So you still need to make some money to pay for the truck sitting those days. If I still had my own truck I would do it for that price.
x1Heavy Thanks this. -
An honest answer…I believe there is some websites that have average lane rates for the past 7 days or so. You don’t want to sell yourself short and give money away. You also don’t want to ask for 3 bucks per mile if that lane is only good for 1.80
My goal here is to convince everyone to push the envelope and slowly drive up rates for all lanes. We all need to be at 3 bucks per mile eventually. IMOLast edited: Jun 5, 2017
K Wopper906, SoCal Trucker, EverLuc and 2 others Thank this. -
$10,000 $2.00 per mile would be nice but depending on who paying the bill they just might see the $10,000 and think that's to much.

In Zimbabwe inflated money we will be at 5.00 mile as our paper money becomes increasingly worthless beyond my short life span of a few years time.
Chinaman and I should have a nice discussion about this....G13Tomcat Thanks this. -
If it's one way to Alaska for 5000, it's going to be a 20,000 to 30,000 dollar bill....
If you got a load of narcotics and pharmacy medicines for Alaska valued at a million. 30K wont be a bit of coffee money for you. -
I seen $15,000+ to Alaska. Nothing up their to bring back. You have deadhead to Seattle for a reload. If you need a tow truck in Alaska I heard it $5,000 minimum basically because it so far they would have to tow your truck at like $5 a mile.x1Heavy Thanks this.

5.88 MPG?
$3.50/ gal fuel?
Those numbers aren't even closewore out Thanks this. -
Yep. Even being conservative with a slow company driver that doesn't keep the door shut you are talking 8 max. Even if you throw in a reset not close to 14. However the rate is close, but I would start a bit higher.
