Dam good advice...
Stick with it. Don't give up...no one ever expects perfection but always keep an open mind. You wont always be right.
..there was a guy on here years ago. He went to Millis MTI school. Graduated top of the class, went out with a trainer and did very well.
Got his own rig and before 7 days were even up, he had a series of issues happen and flipped out. He drove back home (w/o permission) and dumped the truck at the lot and went home.
You need a support network of buddies you can always reach out to. Like someone said, the dumbest question is the one that isnt asked.
Had my friend reached out to me or anyone else, we might have been able to talk him down from the edge.
Dont ever be afraid to ask someone something!
im new. i start cdl training monday.

i am confident that i can make it through my first year, but i know that i am gonna need advice from the vets on the road and on this board. just because i can drive doesn't make me a trucker. there is a lot to learn from everyone. thanks for being receptive and keep the advice coming. it is all appreciated.
Nydiation Thanks this. -
I know there are "recruiting companies" that charge 200-500 to get you a spot at central, dont fall for it. If thats the 250 you're talking about, go directly to their website to apply.

I get that Doug! You're right, and articulated well what I'm feeling....as a former social worker, I like being on the go, and on the road, and there IS a gypsy in my soul. That's why as a brand new student, I have been thinking about this career for some time. I love my occupation, but putting myself first, and not having to do constant "mediation" (thus my handle), for others is a big relief. Good luck to us both. So glad to find a kindred noob here on this pretty amazing site. I start training next Monday the 13th, and am psyched. Like my former occupation, I have no unrealistic expectations, but feel it's a good fit at this time in my life. Looks like we both have the same idea...research, research, research, and listen to those master truckers who have been doing this gig for years. Keep me posted, seriously.....as a worn out musician (knowing many, I could never live that life), and a "tired" semi-retired social worker, let's hope we still have some tread left to do this thing! Best of luck again, Nydia (as in I "need-ee-uh" all the info I can get!)Last edited: Aug 6, 2012

good luck on your training, too. i know it has to be even more nerve racking as a female driver. let us know how your training goes.

Thanks. Good luck to All the new trainees.......keep us all posted so that we can learn from each other, and put our concerns out there for more experienced drivers to address and help us out.
