I'm not going to engage in how I think society should operate. I'm only making factual statements about cost of living and average wages etc. A family of 4 with 1 wage earner could buy a house and put the kids through college in the 60s. No longer true.
And earlier than that women in child bearing years left babies with older children and old ladies and went back to fields and washing other people laundry.
And a good percentage of babies and toddlers died before age 5 between disease starvation and injury. So let's not get too sentimental.

 

College is a different matter but the rest of your statement is opinion not fact. I know at least 10 families right off the top of my head that have one parent working today. My brother raised 4 kids and his wife never worked.

 

Im not talking about dinner out or a cruise. I'm talking about affording deductible and copay plus property tax and vehicle expenses and then being able to set aside for college or to help the kid with a down payment on a car or home. Raising a child with no access to Internet these days is seriously disadvantageous to that kid. Things are different now and I don't know if judging people is most helpful.

 

People you know who are doing this is all well and good. That's called anecdotal evidence in but the decline of buying power in the last 40 years is not an opinion. You can research it on the internet or the library if you want to know facts.

you judged me when you put me on ignore. You essentially said “Shogun’s opinions are beneath me and bothersome to read”. And I resent you for it, but do I ever respect you!

 

The initial judging was how the OP was morally wrong by not being a stay at home mom.
The families I know who are doing it are either lower upper class, have support from extended family, or are making admirable but significant sacrifice of themselves and possibly the kids future.

I'm finished with this line of discussion since you obviously have more emotional attachment to your position than interest in discussing.
