Good post. To illustrate your point I can relate the story of a driver with my company with about 6 months solo experience. His complaint was that he wasn't getting enough miles. I asked him how many miles a week he was averaging. He said about 1800 miles a week...
... then he proudly added that he refused to drive anywhere east of the Mississippi River!?? He was proud that he "stood up for himself" and didn't let them "push him around" right off the bat....
.... huh?
He apparently didn't quite understand the concept that as a new driver they are watching and assessing how you do, your general attitude, ability to adapt, and your ability to go anywhere at anytime. He was apparently so successful impressing them with his unwillingness to go where the freight requirements are greatest that they scored him low enough to put him back in the pack when there are dispatches available.
I just shake my head with how proud he was of his "accomplishment". I ended up making an excuse to avoid having him talk my ear off about it.... that and his whining about not getting miles.... just wow...
Lol thats really to funny. This goes for all business. How can some one get a job and think they can still only do.as they please. I often wonder were some people get there work ethic from. I went with my dad once and he was getting fuel, he got like 50 gal one stop and then went a ways and the. He filled up. I asked him about it :he is company driver why dont you just fill up back there. He informed me that its not his money but he drives for the company and it is not only his job to drive but to also.watch out for the company, he said if I dont watch what we spend I may be out of a job one day. And I have to say in 20 years he has only had 3 jobs.
