I dare say it is also not true for the medium and smaller carriers as well. The stakes are just too dang high to just pencil whip someone's application with just a passing glance.

IYou may be right on that. I hired on with a 12 truck outfit coming off a 18 month gap in my driving jobs and yes they did make me put it down on the application. I put down "self employeed" and that was that and i was hired. the bigger companies are going to want some proof of self employment like w2, and tax returns.

Basically for the past 5 years i would say i have been helping my mother who is disabled and working as a handyman/electrician self employed. I'm not a business because i don't get a lot of work and never made over 11,000 a year i would say. I didn't file taxes either. Now before that i worked at a #### hole motel as a maintenance guy and sometimes as a desk clerk. I also did repairs as a contractor on that hotel. I have been associated with that owner of the hotel since about 1997 but last year we had a falling out. I'm not sure the guy will say anything nice about me or verify my employment.
