Because the industry is full of leaches and companies that treat drivers like garbage. Turnover has always been a huge problem for trucking even during recessions. Most people won't put up with the long hours, low pay and complete disrespect of the places they provide service to so they go get jobs in other industries. And foreigners won't be any different once they see that for themselves so importing a bunch of them to seat trucks ain't a real solution.

How is that differant from other industries such as manufacturing, service sectors, etc ?
There will always be jobs that resident workforce shys away from. And its not always payscale or how workers are treated but rather labor, dealing with dirty work conditions (go milk cows and see how you like that) or long hours like we do

Americans dont want to do those jobs at the current pay offered. The pay is so low because they keep importing more immigrants to tak advantage of.

Add $10/hour to the average pay offered now and see how quickly Americans start beating in the door to take those jobs that "Americans don't want."

Its about a lot more than pay. No one wants to work a low status job because it brands them for life as an second class person. Thats not how I see things, but its danm sure how a lot of people see them.

Talk about Artificial Intelligence is percolating through the Twitter-sphere and the talk is it’s going to hit average and low performing white collar information workers hardest, like lawyers,

A lawyer said that if things got bad he’d just go drive a truck. I reminded him that if he was a lawyer for 20 years and all his friends were lawyers or accountants & executives, that becoming a truck driver would be a kind of social suicide for him because none of his friends would ever look at him the same way again. Told him I doubted that he’d ever go through with it.

I believe he was from Cuba, but regardless, if anyone has a problem with this, then they are truly disconnected at what it takes to get those crappy strawberries to the produce aisle. As our border crisis shows, this "immigrant" thing, is much bigger than most anticipated, and as more get these jobs, word gets back and more come in. Can't blame them, really. Would we be any different? Remember, our grandparents did the same thing, or many of us wouldn't be here today.

Like trucking ? The carrier that i worked for 10 years ago pays almost twice as much now. Still needs drivers. Its not always pay. There is stuff americans typically wont do no matter how much the pay
