Let's just say it wasn't a great big police car. What if it had been a small child? There is no excuse for even releasing the brake without KNOWING what is behind, beside and infront of you.

If you only have a permit..... How were you driving alone?

mje Thanks this.

CDL permit is for driving a rig you need a CDL for. If this tow truck doesn't require a CDL then he is clear to drive it.JIMROY, superpet39, Bayle and 1 other person Thank this. -
I am confused again.mje and superpet39 Thank this. -
First off you're not a "very experienced driver" as you state, you need to get that out of your head. Take this as a wake up call. You have a lot to learn and you might as well start learning now.
1. You need to be aware of what is around your vehicle before moving and while in motion, everytime. If you can't see a cop car behind a tow truck, how he heck are you going to see anything 75 foot behind you in a rig with no rear view mirror ?
2. no excuse for rolling backwards, that is incorrect technique. You say it only rolled back "a foot", but then again this is coming from a guy who doesn't even notice a cop car pull up behind him. Are you sure it wasn't 2 feet ? what about 5 or 10HotH2o, CondoCruiser, misc and 1 other person Thank this. -
I would have jumped out and asked the cop "Why did you hit me?" while you where parked.
hhmag70, mje and kerosene jockey Thank this.
