....Because it is they who are tasked with enforcing some politician's B/S, so they get the blame.
One of life's unfortunate realities, I'm afraid...

I have my private pilots license. If i screw up and have an accident the ramifications are minor. If a commercial pilot screws up he gets hanmered by fines and can even be barred from flying. More severe penalty for the professional. Anyone that doesn't want to be held to higher standards has the right to turn in their professional license, in our case its the cdl. No one forces us to do this for a living. We choose to. -

@unloader said this happened while he was in his CAR, not a truck.
THAT is my bone of contention. Once a driver is out of the truck and on his own time, he should be treated the same as anyone else, and the idea that laws targetting CDL holders for more severe penalties for infractions committed in their POV's is ANYTHING BUT a money grab is at best naive, and at worst disgusting. -
MACK E-6 Thanks this.

I do wish it was a separate license. But it's not. And we aren't the only occupation this applies to. If a doctor comes up on an accident and jumps out to help, if he screws up he will be sitting in front of the review board with his license to practice on the line. Fair? No. But who said life is fair?
TROOPER to TRUCKER Thanks this. -
A doctor swears the Hippocratic oath. A doctor in that example is performing his craft. A trucker commuting home in his car is not, and most likely will never be in a position to do it on a moment's notice like a doctor happening upon the scene of a car accident.
