Trucking companies still try to nullify the hours of service rules by scheduling loads that constantly require you to sleep at different times of the day while their fat ##### clock in at 9am and out at 5pm everyday. They want you to be intelligent enough to handle dot and hazmat but ignorant enough to not realize that they are screwing you or throwing you under the bus for doing what they told you to do. If you dont, they blacklist you until you quit and then lie about your terms of departure when better companies call to verify your experience.
There is no shortage of drivers. Theres a shortage of humans intelligent enough and simultaneously ignorant enough to put up with their ####. The fmcsa or whatever the hell its called should read these forums and not be allowed to communicate with the trucking company hogs. If anyone has been around a self centered hog, you understand the metaphor. This is not meant to be negative. If you know the truth going in, you're mentally prepared for it. The most protected list thats not available is trucking company turn over rate. It should be a mandatory annual publication. Good day
In 10 years what has not changed..

The fmcsa or whatever is responsible for every fatigue related death until they shut trucking companies down at the same rate they shut drivers down who are just doing what they are told to do. Period. Now, i already know trucking company hogs will make a driver profile and try to argue so their greedy ### dont lose a penny. Save it for the rookies.

the scheduling of loads, either pick up or delivery was always done by the amount of driving time factored by (i believe) a 50 mph speed limit.
if a driver cannot be familiar with the rules with the DOT, hazmat etc, etc, then he is NOT a driver, but a steering wheel holder.
in all MY years, either as a long haul trucker, or regional, or dedicated, i NEVER had a bad DOT inspection, nor over weight ticket..never got a speeding ticket, parking ticket or any other moving vehicle violation ticket.
i WAS NEVER LATE to a pick up or delivery, i was ALWAYS early, up to the point of asking for permission to park on the customers property, to get my rest, or if denied, had a plan to get to a truck stop...in fact, 100% of the times, I CALLED the customer FROM the truck stop, and if denied parking on thier property, i was all set to stay at the truck stop.
drivers that are late, cannot get thier sleep, cannot comprehend any and all the rules, laws, etc, are simply NOT drivers, but ignorant steering wheel holders.
so to answer your question in your thread title..??
"in 10 years, what has not changed"????
Answer: the IGNORANCE and self entitlement of the steering wheel holders over those past 10 years, and into the future....jbatmick, bryan21384, Tx Countryboy and 17 others Thank this. -
Dispatchers are akin to used car salesmen. Do due diligence before accepting the deal and be prepared to find a different car lot to work if needed.

The point is... you have one human being that expects another to do something that they themselves would not. Once you become a hog, you rationalize this. Doesnt change what it is regardless of what you call it. It ranges from disrespect to slavery depending on said companies. Hopefully the rookies believe your stance instead of a lasting change coming to the industry. -
Im curious how a hog justifies calling hometime something that is earned. I was born at home, hand. I wasnt born in a moving truck. You either offer good home time or not. Im not an endentured slave that owes you 24/7 until i earn the right to be at home. This is a good way for rookies to identify how a company views its drivers. Its the most audacious #### ive ever seen. Yall put up with it though so there it is.
EuropeanTrucker Thanks this. -
no one is made to be an indentured slave. that is the feeling of those that have no need to start at any oof the bottom feeder companies for thier CDL, or that all important "second chance" to walk the straight and narrow once again.
you blatantly called me a hog, an insult, do you have the 48 years into this industry like i do..??
i think not..i "see you" as a ranter with no valid rant about an industry that you either follow the rules, or stay the heck out. we need no one like you in this business, trying to convince the newbies they are hog, slaves, whatever.
what has happened to YOU that made you this way..??
were you recently fired..???
were you read the RIOT act for mucking up the equipment, the load, the customers property.>??
were you caught urinating or crapping on the customers property..??
fess up, what's your ulterior motive..????Gutter, Just passing by, bryan21384 and 8 others Thank this. -

I must admit, I'm kinda disappointed you didn't do a mic drop.

NO ONE is telling you to put up with ANYTHING. Don't like the scheduling, lack of sleep, pay, hometime, equipment, customer base, labor involved, or anything else? Find something else. Or aren't you smart enough to figure that out? You're pretty good at name calling, especially with people you don't know.bigblue19, Tx Countryboy, Voodoo Pyg and 6 others Thank this. -
You have your opinion, he has his. State your case without argument and personal insult and leave it at that.Voodoo Pyg, 88 Alpha, D.Tibbitt and 6 others Thank this.
