In-cab cameras?

Yes, it's Legal. You sign a form authorizing them to monitor you...or you Don't work for them.Some Megas have driver facing camera and dash cam. Some have just dash cam. Typically the cams are monitored by an outside company and only "looked at" when there is an incident is.. ( hitting the brakes to hard,hitting a chug hole, crossing the lane lines,not stopping completely at a stop sign, speeding etc. Typically one or 2 lights will flash when you do something bad.Or if you're in a wreck it will be analyzed to see if you were eating a bowl of lucky charms when to ran off the road. They can randomly check on ya if they want, to see if you're smoking or drinking coffee while driving or talking on a cell phone ( the Big No No. Basically you just "deal with the invasion of privacy? Or you seek employment Elsewhere.

 

It is not legal, and you do not have to sign anything and you cannot be fired for it. If your inter province, your protected by the PIPEDA act. Sysco was forced to remove the driver facing cameras by the courts.

The federal privacy act covers interprovincial carriers. I have filed the complaint, and my inward camera is now covered.

 

IIRC, you work for the Canadian division of an American carrier? If so, the presence of a driver-facing camera and their lack of knowledge about the law is unsurprising.

 

It appears the ruling itself was specific to Sysco Quebec, but as already mentioned, the referenced act is federal. That, plus the fact the ruling was upheld after appeal in Quebec Superior Court, would suggest a company would have a hard time going against it. However, one must always be cautious about applying judgments from la belle province because of their different legal system.
