On my last truck I had a local fab shop break a piece of flat steel to fill the available area between the crossmember and the front carrier then I built a lid and deck plate to all match. I ended up putting the batteries in there and replacing the battery boxes with step boxes.

The tanks on my kenworth are lower down, I wish they were up between the rails, but there isn't enough room between cross members with the tanks that it has.
I thought about doing that with the batteries on my international, but wound up just moving the battery box forward to get more room on the rails.. I like that though.Oxbow, cke, FerrissWheel and 1 other person Thank this. -

I have 2 60" on my stepdeck and headache rack and that seems plenty for me....only regret that my headache rack not enclosed to keep binders from rust and snow in winter
