May gets a bad rap for slow trucks and low pay but starting out you're gonna get low pay. The drivers I've talked to in the past say their training is top notch though.

How long has it been since you were released from parole/probation/supervision? I think being 5 years out from that event (with no further incidents) will help you more than being 5 years out from the date of the most recent offense.

There are plenty of felons working in the oilfield, and also driving concrete mixers and dump trucks. Get your tanker endorsement, and try for the HazMat endorsement as well. If you can show that you passed the background check for the hazmat endorsement that might help make you look better to potential employers and their insurance companies.

My truck insurance went up $100 a month when I moved down here. Went from a nearly identical house situation (.4 acres 2150+ sq ft) Sold in Mn for 415k and bought in Fl for 356k. Mn house was a split level with basement, the house in Fl is all 1 level. Only real difference is I dont have city sewer. I do have city water though. Taxes are lower here. I am about half way between Orlando and Gainsville in the middle of the state, so I dont have the God awful insurance rates a lot of people have (Im about as far from the water as you can get in Florida). So expense is relative ;)

OK. Check with your PO (if you still have one) to make sure you're clear to travel out of your area and out of state.

Let me be clear. Getting into school is not an issue even if you were convicted of murder & treason yesterday & had 5 DUIs last month. They would tell a death-row inmate "now is the time to get your CDL" because every new student means the school gets money.

Maybe you can get hired & maybe you can't. That's not something the school can answer. It's up to your ability to find a job. Schools can and do lie sometimes. Just because they said yes it doesn't mean it's true.
