    You take a very basic road test during orientation - basically to make sure you at least have the concepts of how to shift (even if you need work on it), can handle the truck (including making your turns wide so you aren't going to wipe out anything on a corner with the trailer), can keep it between the lines and can do a basic straight back.

    After you come back from your on-the-road training, you take what they call an "upgrade" test. This test is a bit more involved with more advanced turns and a 45 degree or angled back into a parking space. You also have a written test (hint: you ARE allowed to go wandering around to look for the answers. You are not confined to the test room.)

    Once you get your hazmat endorsement, the company has their own hazmat test that you have to pass as well. But they will give you the study material for it and it's no big deal.
