Van is super boring from what I have seen. Securement pays differently for different companies, but some loads can pay substantially more for the securement, tarp pay, plus miles.
At Swift, for instance, they haul sprinter vans on an open deck. 3 per load, multiple stops.
You get paid miles, securement, multiple stop pay, plus you get paid to back those vans off the deck. You make 2 cents more per mile than reefer or dry van and the flatbed fleet is a lot more personal than dry Van, where you are a number.
If you are considering flatbed, also look into Melton. There, the pay DEFINITELY reflects the work you do. They also have great benefits. I had past legal issues that required signing on with a mega carrier for training or Melton would have been my first choice, then TMC, Prime and then Swift.
With verifiable flatbed or tanker experience, you can make a ton of money if you're willing to haul ###.

Also, regarding running the NE region, a lot of companies pay 100 dollars or more in addition to your regular pay, if you run in the northeast.

Danny Herman Trucking has a terminal in phillipsburg and I think they take new CDL'rs.
You'd get by the house quite a bit as they kill 44 and a short drive for orientation.
They also are very military friendly.lar.308 Thanks this. -
If interested in Flatbed, Maverick is also a great company. Excellent securement training and you should be home every weekend.
