Is Prime doing a BMI test on new hires? I am in school and heard through the grape vine that one of our graduates got sent home because his Body Mass Index was too high.
I am within proper height/weight standards, but we have a few guys in class interested in Prime and they are pretty big. They question the instructors on this, when in fact they should be calling the recruiter.

I have been told that we are indeed measuring BMI.
As I understand it, and I could be wrong... If your BMI is too high you will be required to take a sleep study to determine if you suffer from sleep apnea.
This test is not covered by Prime. There is a discount here in Springfield, but I dont know if it is just for current Prime drivers or includes applicants.
If you have had the test at home, and are being treated with a C-Pap machine, I pretty sure all the documentation is required from your Dr. and you can be cleared for hire.
Please dont take all of this as gospel... but this is what I have heard from other drivers here.
For a fact, I heard this from Safety. Current Prime drivers who have a high BMI at their next DOT physical will be required to participate in the sleep study to determine if they suffer from sleep apnea or they will be let go. The program and equipment is at a discounted rate with a local outfit. Im not sure if our insurance covers part/all of it or not.channel 19 Thanks this. -
I have heard the same thing too.

Yes, they are very serious about the bmi! I got asked all the questions! They will check your weight against your height!

Good thread guys keep it up. I plan on going with prime sometimes in august.

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback. I will steer the guys in the class towards this thread. I was amazed that I was the only one in class other than the instructors that had been to this site.

Hey all, just a quick update. So far I am very happy with Prime. My trainer is top notch and so is our truck. Miles have been pretty good for us running as a team. Over 5k for the last couple weeks. I am meeting some drivers who aren't all that happy, but most if not all of them are lease operators. And drivers complaining isn't specific to Prime, it's everywhere. I don't care what company you look at, people are complaining. I'll be going to the company side once my training is over. A little less freedom, but a whole lot less headache. Prime has not tried to pressure me into a lease at all. In fact, during orientation, they suggested we wait and see what this economy does before deciding on a lease.
As far as BMI is concerned, yes, they test for that. I believe you can have a max of 39, but I'm not 100% sure about it. I also don't know what they do if you are over 39. I think new recruits might be sent home. Current drivers have to do what U2 indicated. Take a sleep test and if needed, purchase a machine to help with sleep apnia if you have it. It's not cheap either.
Anyway, after about a month in, I'd have to give the thumbs up so far. One thing that's often overlooked is the condition of trailers. I'd have to say Prime has some of the best trailers on the road. There are a few bad ones here and there, but when you compare ours to companies like Werner, Schneider, and some of the other "big dogs" there's no competition. Ours are in the best condition.
I'll try to update every now and then. But like I said, so far everything is going great! -
Glad to hear everything is going well Truckermike. Is youre trainer a company driver or is he a lease operator. Are you in a century or a cascadia.

Trucker,
Thanks for the update and best of luck to you.

Hi all,
I am in the process of hiring on to Prime after 20 years out of trucking. I am leaving healthcare and going back to my first love which is trucking. The max BMI at present is 39. I am not exactly in prime shape(pun intended....) and I came in at 32. I am getting my start date this am and will update as I work through the process. Everyone's posts played a large role in my decision to choose Prime to return to the trucking world.
