I was pretty much exempt from filing for a few years. The IRS pinged me for not filing, even though I was exempt. I just file every year, so the IRS knows what I'm doing.
As far as returns, my husband has not MADE money as a truck driver in years. Everything is tax-deductible. According to current tax rules, we have no income. My father is a small-business owner and he also has no income.
I also drove a truck, paid some taxes and had no income, based on our taxes.
Do they want to see the first page for one's gross? We gross $150,000. We pay IFTA, 2290 and pay no income tax, because we have no income.

Not everyone is that able to make compromises though. Take your average american citizen and pay them 10k a year and they'll be feening off every government aid available.
Case in point:
If every truck driver in america went on strike and/or called it quits, I'd be willing to bet 2/3rds of the population will starve to death within a few weeks. -
Wow, our rent is $1800 a year. That's down from the $1980, I paid as a manufacturer in the same complex. Our rent is based on my husband being a truck driver.
We also qualify for food stamps, even though we don't go for them.
How many loads are you pulling in the US? I'm just wondering why Canadian drivers are asking why we don't make money, when we see them everywhere.
