u want to keep your fuel expenses to around 25-35% of your gross income. ur income will be determined by what type of trailer u pull & the connections you have with freight agents.

I think the O/O's you talked to don't know the difference between gross and net.

Well, let me throw this out to you. The company I work for, several years ago when we were super busy, our O/O's (who are independents and have to carry their own insurance, authority, etc., etc., etc.) were doing $1,000 to $1,300 per day to the truck just working local doing P&D of containers. One guy was averaging $4,500 per 5 day week minimum to the truck. Now, this one guy who is a freind of the companies owners is an independent who is leased to a company. IN '08 he made $210,000 to the truck, after expenses, fuel, etc., etc., etc. he cleared about $60,000 in salary for the year. He drives a 6 yr old Western and pulls a 2 yr old drop deck.
