It's like this.... neither of these engines are dpf engines. All the hype about hotter engines..... I never cracked a head, softened the rings, or melted one down because it ran too cool. The C15 has the wonderful serpentine belt system. Although it is simple and looks cool it doesn't exhibit near the durability of the v-belts on the older truck. It seems that in the warmer seasons is when it sizes an idler bearing or snaps a belt. My opinion is the shock loading wears thin spots in belt that create a harmonic disturbance that kills idlers. Using Cat idlers (tensioners) and Pacaar belts. So trying to reduce cycling couldn't hurt. Running with fan locked sucks from several angles.

Airflow thru the radiator is what pulls the heat out of the coolant. If you're not generating enough airflow thru the core by driving fast enough, the fan is really the only option.

Sorry guys, I am pretty much from the old school. I was taught that the longevity of an engine was related to heat cycles so the steadier temps held the longer the life... As to the inefficiency of the 08 you got that right. Of course it was bumped up 15 or 20%. And it had to be heat soaked to run right. Fact. In the day the hot 7fb's would pass it. Until the wind picked up and they would have to watch temp. That is when the 08 would shine.

What about a diff thermostat and reprogram ecu so fan comes on sooner?

works great until you have to add water. then you ruin your engine

Never heard him mention it. I have heard of dirt track guys around home using Water Wetter in the coolant. Don't know much about it. I am so far removed from K.R's world that I am not a likely follower in general. However, I am a big believer in the Scangauge. But don't have, or need, the KR edition.
