I plan to take the written test before I even begin CDL classes, and I'd take the driving part at my DMV except I need one of those truck thingies.

Looked at DCS in York?

The name sounded familiar but I went to their website and I know I had not see their website before. $5k and 200 hours ... not bad. They're worth a closer look, thanks for the info. That location is roughly 3 1/2 hours from me whereas I could drive daily to the Sage in New Stanton PA. It's still worth a look though.

I'm sure you don't want to travel to Akansas for training, but last I heard was $2500. You can check it out if you're interested. This is where I went 10 years ago and I paid $1400. The $2500 back then included lodging (that you didn't want..lol). If you do contact them, be sure to ask about lodging, #of people to a room, etc. I declined their lodging and used a VERY old hotel about 10 miles away in the next town. Very quiet, safe place...really, really old..lol...but well kept. Dirt cheap. Think I paid $18/night TOTAL..lol.
From reading this thread, sounds like you have a couple good options for co paid (Henderson sounds best to me), but I'm a big fan of finding a reasonable price and paying your own. I wouldn't concern myself it if you wind with someone other than Schneider for a year. They would still take you into choice with 1yr elsewhere. This is trucking. Do what works for YOU... forget the rest.Last edited: Jan 27, 2016

I'm not too concerned about traveling anywhere to get a CDL if the school is accredited. There are some cheaper places out near Chicago, but they aren't accredited. The company I would like to drive for is Schneider and they are the only one I am looking at that does not have their own training program. The others I am considering all have their own schools and I'd just do the indentured servitude for a year or so. Everyone says just 'do a year somewhere and quit' but I would rather take my time and find a place where I can stay put.

Henderson program requires 50.00 a week on 4500.00 with a 1k reduction at 6 months and another at 1 year plus the time losses sitting in a school. Prime's is a drive 2 weeks get a cdl and start getting paid asap. 1 year commitment and it's free. Not sure how anyone could say Hendersons program is better. Their trucks are ordered thru prime and have the same set up

Prime hires north of Orlando and it's 8 weels pre cdl and 6 weeks post cdl.. technically is 40k truck miles but 5k a week is doable

If I had to live in a truck with a trainer for EIGHT WEEKS!, someone's life would be in jeapordy. My opinion, whoever gets you into your own truck within a 3-4 weeks. Believe me, you'll be ready for it... in more than one way.

I don't know of even one company that has a training period under 6 weeks especially pre cdl
