The reason it is taking a minamum of 8 weeks is
1. 80 percent of the people that are entering this biz have no business getting into it as they have no clue what they are doing nor a clue how dangerous it really is to not have a clue.
2. The people training the students these days were a student 3 months prior, and who is to say they were a good student. Or had a clue .
3. If you can't comprehend shifting and backing after a couple hours and all the other duties and emergencies that will rear their heads after a week on the job you will probably never get it.
Indentured Servitude or $6,000?

I'm kind of in the same situation- new here and want to start in this business. I live just north of Tampa along I-75, so I'm wondering what my options are. I think there are Werner and Schneider facilities along I-4 less than an hour away, so I was thinking about one of those, but don't know if they hire from my area, or should I move or something? And the school choices in my area seem to be either Career Tech in Lakeland (which is listed on Scheider's site, so I assume they are ok), or Roadmaster in Tampa, which looks to be one of the chain commercial schools.
Or should I look into traveling and doing a school like Henderson's even though it's far away, and list my mom's home in Indiana as my home or something? I just thought it might be easier to do the school closer to where I am living so no room and board costs. Any thoughts on what you would do? -
You are in a dead zone as far as getting hired. Someone else that is on TTR lives in SW Florida and I think they mentioned moving to the Midwest somewhere as well. If that is an option for you, it would more than likely help. In fact, if I remember correctly he had talked to Schneider and they are the carrier that suggest he move. If you are new to the industry, it sounds as though Florida is a tough state to get hired in.freediverdude Thanks this. -
Oh, ok, I guess I'll see if I can find out more about the complaints about Roadmaster. I didn't know Werner owned them- they probably steer you to Werner then I would guess.

I just checked on the Roadmasters acquisition and it occurred in 2014 so whatever changes were going to have been made, should already be in place.

Schneider will not hire out of Florida last I spoke with them 8 months ago.
There is a community college program in st Pete or Tampa that I was looking at that was fairly reasonable though long. -
Wow, now I'm worried, I see all these reviews online about Roadmaster asking for a huge payment after the third week, and not being able to place people in jobs from my area. Why have all these schools in this area if nobody hires from here, lol.
I feel I should be a really good candidate- I worked in the same place for the past 16 years, no driving accidents for the past 5 years, good physical condition in my forties, not on drugs or anything, no medications...
